Motorola Atrix for work

Thank you for responding. I was hoping to get some more detailed info especially for using exchange and battery life.

1) Swype or glideit for all typing (can’t use physical keyboard anymore)
YES (I use Ultimate Keyboad to complement Atrix)

2) Email, calendar and contacts through MS Exchange (I need the work email to be constantly in sync. I have a separate yahoo account that can be checked periodically).
YES

3) Battery life (I know nothing will match the blackberry – 3 to 4 days on a single charge - but if I don’t use the phone for internet, videos or games, but strictly for Outlook functions and short phone calls, how often will I need to charge? I use the phone about 12 hours per day to constantly check and respond to emails and make calls. During this time I don’t have access to a charger.)

It really has a great battery life for such a powerful phone. I also use JuiceDefender to extend the battery life somewhat.

4) AT&T (but Verizon is also an option or an unlocked phone to be used on AT&T)

YES

5) Phone use ( how quickly can I make or answer a call? How is easy is it to switch between incoming calls or set up a conference call?)

It works as well as an Blackberry or Iphone

6) Ability to customize (not in the wallpaper, widgets, etc. sense. Can I assign custom ring tones, vibrate options to specific phone #s and to specific notifications such as emails, texts, appointments? Can I use it easily as my alarm clock?

YES you can customize anything on it

7) Size – (Smaller is better. Smallest size that is still comfortable to type on. I know this is very subjective.)

I think that it is a little larger than most Blackberrys but very close to the Iphone. In my opinion, it is a perfect size for functionality withoutbeing too big.

8) Decent camera – (I don’t need a great camera, but I’m on construction sites and use the blackberry camera all the time to take photos and email them right away. Is this a huge battery drain if used without flash? Can I easily label the photos or select multiple photos to email?)

Great camara and yes you can do multiple photos

9) MS Excel, word, pdf file access. (Is there a good file management system? Can I save files permanently on the phone and then get access to them quickly for reference? Can I use excel to easily put together very basic spreadsheets and then copy the info into an email or attach it?)

It comes with Quickoffice but you have to pay 10 to use it

10) GPS without heavy battery drain

Yes

11) Reliability – (There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews and a lot of returns. I know some of this is because people didn’t understand the device they were buying, but has anyone had reliability problems with this phone specifically? In 10 years of bb use, I haven’t had more than a handful of days where I needed to pull the battery and only one phone crapped out on me.)

So far it has been very reliable (first few months out though)

Somewhat important
1) Good quality camera – if I can sub it for my basic point and shoot.
2) good audio – (would be nice if this replaced my ipod. How much of a drain on battery is playing music?)

Yes
3) Outlook sync w/tasks and notes.
Yes
4) remote desktop or remote file access (Is this even possible?)
Yes (you will have to download an app from the Android Market)

I have had my phone for over 2 months now and love it. No problems and has been very reliable. I will try to answer your questions based on my experience.

1) The stock keyboard is very responsive and easy to use. You have swipe as an option too.
2) It is capable of this.
3) Battery life is real good. (Depends on how you use it.) The most I have been able to get is over 17 hrs on a charge. On average, I get 12 to 14 hrs. But, I do stream music, text and respond to e-mails, use GPS, use exercise app, Internet surfing and have 20 widgets. Also, depends on your setting for notifications and screen brightness.
4) AT&T
5) Answering calls is instant and very easy to switch to another caller or conference calling.
6) Totally customizable. I use Handcent for texting and regular stock for e-mail.
7) Perfect size. Not to big, not to small.
8) Love the camera. Pictures are good and features are too. The video 1080P recording is great though. Real easy to attached pictures to e-mails or text messages. I use Quickpic as my default picture gallery app.
9) I use Quickoffice Pro (paid Version). I am able to view and create word, excel, PDF and power points, all in this app. Works really great and easy. Can send documents by e-mail too.
10) It will drain the battery. I can have it running for an hour and lose 10-15% battery.
11) Very Reliable. It has some bugs as being a new phone of its kind, but I haven
