Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows if the ribbon for the Droid2's are the same as the Droid1's. I have been using a friends R2D2, and I absolutely love the spaced out keypad. Does anyone know if they work in the Droid1's or should I just buy one and find out for everyone?
i could be wrong but i think swapping keyboards is not going to be a simple thing since the entire phone is under the keypat, and the screen is the only thing left. you might as well just get a new D2 and call it a day.
but feel free to prove me wrong with a cost effective method to do this. i would love the D2 keyboard (processor and RAM wouldn't hurt either )
That's not any issue here. I run a repair business. I replace components in these droid's and htc's probably 10-15 times a week. I already replaced the keypad on my droid once, and it is getting worn down, so I wanted to try a swap project. Maybe add it to my list of services.
Well I think I will just try it out and see what happens. The only problem now I've run into, is none of my normal parts suppliers have the droid2 keyboard in their stock.
I'll just keep looking, and if I can get one, I'll make a nice thread showing the installation and outcome of the install.
Ok, well if we have an audience of interest for this. I will keep my eye out for this d2 keyboard, and when I get it in, I will post in here for the outcome. I really don't see any reason why it would not work at this point.
I was just pointed to a link on droidforums that showed someone who disassembled a droid 2. The internals are identical. So the only issue I can see now would be some sort of "driver" type compatibility issue, but I don't see any other problem right now.
