Help Motorola Droid "Home/Lock" screen problems

I have a Motorola Droid with Android 2.0. My phone screen will turn black in the middle of a task. Then it will eventually show the "Droid" Logo and the red "eye" then come back to the "home/lock" screen. I did not set this up, this behavior just started, and continues.

This is not a configuration screen time out. I set that at 2 minutes, but that wouldn't just turn the screen black in the middle of typing an IM, email, or working in settings, which is what happens.

I did not set up this "home/lock" sequence. Up until yesterday, I had never seen the "Droid" logo followed by the red "eye", and then finally the home lock screen.

How do I remove the lockout all of a sudden in the middle of a task?

How do I change/control what I see for a lockout sceen?

Uninstall the Antivirus program if you have downloaded and installed it. Apparently this started happening to a lot of people around New Years Eve...

I just uninstalled it and will see what happens.
