exactly someone knows how to search and read. i agree with you 100%. Wifi issue. you can't test both phones at the same time on wifi. he needs to do one then the other so its fair, because both phones are pulling banwidth at the same time you'll never get accurate results - dsl tech

The n1 and inc use the same proc. I know sense is running, that's why droid had the advantage along with petes rom. Inc proc can be oc'd to about 1.17

Yeah, they're the same except the 8650 has CDMA support. Previously there were very small performance differences between the old MSM series chips (patent stuff, really) that led to the GSM chips performing very slightly better, but now all the Snapdragons perform the same.
 
The only thing this proves is that Moto Droid with OC and custom ROM will run faster than a stock incredible. I think he makes a good point that older technology can keep up with the new, state of the art, if you are willing to melt your phone.
 
I've ran my droid at 1.2ghz for 3 months and it hasn't melted yet lol.

There is a reason the manuf. clocked it where it's at.. back in the day of single core processors I've seen 2GHz processors OC'd to 4 GHz.... just because it's possible doesn't mean it's a good friggin' idea! hell u can drive your car with your feet if you WANT to... but again doesn't make it a good idea!

HEAT and electronics don't mix. however. electronics generate heat. they need to be kept cool. by OC'ing your droid to over 2x it's processing power you're increasing it's heat out put by atleast 2x.. i don't care what the processor is rated for. what is the cooling system of the phone rated for?

Also I take it you're not too familiar with the PS3 and Xbox 360 gaming systems, no? PS3 in its early release had an issue dubbed the YLoD. Yellow Light of Death. not nearly as common as the RRoD (Red Ring of Death) on the Xbox. but its the same problem. basically Sony fixed the problem a long time ago, microsoft is still scratching their heads on it. Oh yeah. the problem. The GPU in these wonderful devices are soldered chipsets to the board. they use lead free solder. which is very brittle, and can break easy from flex. what causes flex? expansion and contraction. what causes that? heat. so why don't they use lead based solder? well thank our wonderful gov't placing stupid regulations on things because the average consumer refuses to read labels and warnings and still gets all sue happy and somehow wins (i guess our justice system is a bit of play here too) but that's a whole 'nother topic. so they have to find a way to create less heat. I don't know how Sony did it but they YLoD is a non issue now. However Xbox still has the dreadful RRoD. How does this have anything to do with our phones? again lead free solder. the manufacturer only makes a board and chipset able to withstand normal usage to keep down on costs.

so just because it's been 'working' for 3 months no problem doesn't mean it's not still happening. You're extremely shortening your device's TTL. but if that's what you want to do, by all means go for it. but there is a reason the device is only clocked at 550MHz from the factory. (I believe that is the correct clock speed for a Moto Droid). Even if the Inc isn't able to handle the heat from the 1GHz processor. guess what I got that you don't? Factory warranty. So take it for what it's worth. It's like buying a 4 banger and putting a turbo and nitrous on it to keep up with a corvette.... ok cool but the vette still has a factory warranty.

You are obviously not speaking from experience because it's pretty commonly known among the Droid root community that the chip overclocks just fine. I think the stock clock speed of 550mhz is probably more to do with quality control, because you'll occasionally find someone who has stability issues if they try to overclock. In the vast majority of cases there is a negligible increase in temperature and a substantial increase in performance with no stability problems.

but i just find it hard to believe you can double the clock speed of something and NOT double or even quadruple the heat.. the first example I gave had to have a liquid nitrogen cooling system to keep it cool... and again I never questioned the stability of the chipset at 1GHz. i questioned the COOLING at 1GHz. if there's nothing in place to help cool it at that speed, you're going to wear them solder joints out extremely quick, much quicker than designed, due to the increased heat from an inadequate cooling system.
 
As a matter of fact yes there is a app that reads the proc temp on the Droid. Doing the same tasks on a non oc Droid and a oc Droid has less then a 3 degree celcius difference. You probably aren't aware that the A8 in the Droid is fully capable and produced to safely scale from 550mhz to 1ghz, and you can read that directly from the manufacturer if you don't believe me.

Yes there are applications that monitor CPU temperature. Also the overclocking is done depending on CPU load. Most of the time the phone sits idle at 250mhz and is throttled up when needed.

I know it contradicts normal experience with processors and it didn't make sense to me either but that's the way it actually is.

ah yes. i forgot about that technology. it makes sense to me i just forgot we had that ability.

can someone post vids/pics of both an oc'd droid and non oc'd droid cpu temps after heavy use.. (vid preferred so we can see the actual heavy use.. and how long was this heavy use for? things take a while to heat up)
 
That was done a few months ago when first started OC'ing our Droid's. I'll look for the vids for you, I don't have my Kodak with me so I can't make a vid myself but I can take some screen shots if you want.
 
Honestly I notice barely any difference, maybe a hour less if that. As far ass battery life vs the Inc I can't give you any concrete comparisons as I don't have one to test full time. From what I read on here some say it's not very good compared to the Droid but then gain I also see a lot of people saying it's very good. The Droid was known to have the best battery life of any Android phone at it's time though. With moderate use I can go 2 days without a charge but under heavy usage I charge it every night (although it is never below 20%). Sense puts a ton of strain on the battery though so that is gonna hurt the Inc compared to vanilla Android on the Droid.
