How To Motorola Droid Ultra FAQ

This is a great thread for us newbs! (Thank you!)
I was searching for the best screen protector only because I thought I really needed one. But that SICK video has demonstrated that I don't.

3 Questions
1) Sorry, this might be a dumb question, but what does Partial Wake mean?
2) I never log out of the facebook app. Does this drain a significant amount of battery?
3) i synced my contacts with facebook so everyone in my contacts would have their fb pic as the contact pic. Things went well and the pics are generally good except for one instance. The picture of the person that appears on the screen when calling them or receiving a call from them is not clear like in the contacts section and very blurry. Why is this and is there a way to fix this?

Thanks for the help.

thank you so much for this thread - the tidbits on resolution, holding the corner for expanding the crop size for background images (OMG <3), certain fav apps and disabling the native messaging app when you have a custom SMS app - ALL CAME IN VERY HANDY! :)

2 things I'll add:

Uninstall Apps: press and hold the icon and drag it to the trash can at the bottom as if you were removing it, but hold it there for 2 seconds. A text popup appears reading, "Drop to Uninstall."

Switching Home Screens: hold the context menu button (don't know the official name) with the horizontal lines. Your 3 (or however many if you've installed a custom theme), popup for easy switching.

Thanks again and do continue sharing as you discover the cool shortcuts and features! It's surprising that Verizon and Google only shared a very limited manual with the device.

My MotoDROID will not vibrate AT ALL. It does not vibrate when ringing or during keypress. Is there something i dont know?? I have handcent and sound manager and neither of these apps will make it vibrate either. Do I have a defective DROID?

have you checked your settings for vibrate? also, haptic feedback?

Home > Settings> Sound & Display Settings > Phone Vibrate

and

Home > Settings> Sound & Display Settings > Haptic Feedback

yes...all vibrate selections are checked as well as the feedback. I have determined that my phone has a defect and I am returning it to the store for a replacement.

If you long press the text message area, not the play button, you'll get an option to save the attachment to the SD card. After that, you can find it in the songs view in the music app.

Hello! I managed to stumble across a setting a few days ago that I think I changed...now I can't get back to it! It was something for day hours and night hours. I changed the times. Now, my messages (both email and text) do not come thru during the night hours. Can anyone tell me how to get back to this setting? Thanks in advance!

Two questions:

How do you view and set the programs that are being automatically run on reboot? When I use TasKiller after a reboot, there are a bunch of programs there that aren't used on a daily basis.

Also, memory cards. Is there any particular kind that is good? Or just get the cheapest deal I can find? Any particular size (GB) represent a "sweet spot" for functionality (speed, etc.) versus storage.

Thanks for helping Chris,

Is there a way to keep the screen from timing out when I'm using Google Maps and have my Moto Droid plugged into a car charger?

The DROID comes with a 16 GB SDHC card for storage. The 32GB cards are rumored to be out very soon (if not already) but I have found that cheaper cards tend to have slower performance - you'll need to do the research yourself to figure out the fastest cards, then figure out which places have the best deals.

IIRC, I posted in another thread (or maybe this one :p) about the pre-order for the 32GB cards - ~$100 USD, for now.

Am I limited to three Home screens, or can I add more?

You can get more screens using an alternative Home screen app, (currently, it seems that the most popular ones are dxTop, sweeterhome, and another) or else you can 'upgrade' your phone to an unofficial ROM to get better functionality - I personally am using Pete's Bugless Beast for the overclocking (OC) as well as 5 sliding home screens native.

Google Maps as opposed to Google Navigation? I believe that there is an app that allows you to set timeout values for other individual apps, but a second way to try would be to use the Car Dock app (not necessarily using the car dock itself, if you don't feel like buying one) and it should not time out on you.

Yeah: DockAwake Display Manager -- excellent app

You don't need an app to do this.

Settings > Applications > Development > Select Stay Awake

This option will keep the screen from turning off when it is plugged into any power source. PC/Car/AC. It will however stay off while plugged in if you lock it with the power button.

Thanks for the tips. Nice to have this resource.

Trying to uninstall utube and it bounces back. I hard press icon, drag to the garbage can and it just bounces back. How do I remove it permanently?

There is an issue with my Motorola Droid I have noticed and have not been able to find the rhyme or reason why it happens. Occasionally when I return to either the list of texts or my home page from sending or receiving a text message, "New Message" is highlighted, or when I return to the home page, the icon the is in the top left position on the home page is highlighted.

Any idea why this happens? The app does not become active, it only have an orange box surrounding it. Suggestions? Thank you in advance and let me know if I should clarify the description of what is happening.

so earlier today my phone popped up a message about a system update. About time as my son and I got ours at the same time but his did the update to version 2.1 the same day we got them while mine has been on 2.0.1 for days now. Anyway, how long does an update typically take? And what happens in a 'normal' update? I clicked update and haven't touched anything since, but it's been sitting here with nothign but a yellow exclamation mark in a triangle in the middle of the screen for at least 10 minutes! I don't want to screw it up but should it be taking so long?

Not sure if you mean uninstall or deleting the icon off your screen. I saw that when trying to delete an icon once-it was just where I was dragging it to at the bottom, I wasn't quite hitting it--hold on to it until you don't see the red then drop it down there--think that is what I did when it finally worked. Also I know you can uninstall stuff under the applications menu
