It's confusing. Motorola named their software 2.3.1. Google Android OS version is 2.2.

As lex said its confusing to say the least. Newest OTA for DroidX is Android version 2.2.1 and Moto version 2.3.340. Verify in Menu/Settings/AboutPhone
