Motorola offers "bootloader solution"

it has been talked about and that's not a solution. that's just them saying they are working on something. i'll believe it when i see it

Yeah this is really old news. This was damage control from Moto when an employee told off a FB member when asked if the bootloader was lock, that the bootloader was and if he didn't like it, he can go elsewhere for his phone.

“@tdcrooks if you want to do custom roms, then buy elsewhere, we’ll continue with our strategy that is working thanks.”

I hadn't realized the made an actual "note" about it. Everyone should post a comment on that "policy" and ask when the solution will be provided since the Atrix release is right around the corner and the "policy" stated that they'd share info closer to availability.

regardless of if/when it's coming, i personally think a different approach needs to be taken regarding this. if Moto, and every handset manufacturer for that matter, wants to make everyone happy, they need to have 2 variants for sale. one through AT&T with the locked bootloader, and another one at full retail price that you can just buy with an unlocked bootloader. that would be a good solution. i'd gladly pay full price to get one without a locked bootloader

this may not be an issue for me, though. root will still come and that's good enough since all i want to do is get rid of ALL of the pre-loaded crap on the phone, maybe get rid of motoblur and use a stock launcher

Ya, I don't care as much about the custom ROMS as just the root. All I care about is enabling sideloading and installing Titanium Backup so I can get rid a lot of the bloatware.

+1 I feel the same way... Just get rid of all that bloatware is fine with me.
