Customer's are going off on Motorola's Facebook page they have the nerve to post this chart and don't expect customers to be upset. They talking about the promise to unlock the bootloader and letting the devs put out ICS for them. Every single post is negative. People are pissed off by....

1. Why are all the new phones still under development when one of the selling point for the Razr was that it was gonna see ICS like 6 weeks after the source code was released? Now I didn't expect 6 weeks but wasn't thinking 6 -12 months either.

2. The promise to unlock the bootloader by Q3-4 in 2011? Customers are bring up examples of ICS Roms working on their phones that are based off of gingerbread. They are saying this not suppose to work but the devs are doing a better job than Motorola dev teams.

3. 8 months late for the Bionic, Razr released 2 months after, Razr Maxx released 2 months after, Moto Xoom released without 4g, Xoom has ICS now but the Xoom sold with 4g doesn't have ICS yet!

Now this is from people that own Motorola phones on all carriers not just VZ. I love my Razr but the way Motorola has handled these examples is a bad PR move. The lies and broken promises! Don't say 6 weeks and ICS or unlocked bootloader and 2011 to customers and don't expect backlash from 2 of the most important words to a Motorola smart phone owner ICS & UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER!

What also is crazy is that when Motorola advertise their new products on their Facebook page and customers ask questions they are very quick to respond. They are over 900 negative comments and Motorola hasn't responded once.

I don't know how to feel about that. Looks like Q3 or later.

On one hand who cares... My razr is fine as is and runs great.

On the other hand.... I love havingt the latest software and I will be VERY board with my Razr by by Q3. I won't lie I am disappointed. I just dont see why it should take a year toi roll out a update after google releases a new version.

I admit to sometimes thinking about Iphones just to step away from this sad process.

Actually, that's 3 words (4 technically, but I'll let the AND go for now). LOL

I'm not upset about it, but disappointed. I just got the MAXX last week and love the phone. I'm searching for a ROM instead. The same things that I'll love about an update, will also bring about things that are gonna suck (more bloatware, slow downs, inevitably something else too). Until then - it's root and find a ROM that has what I want in it. It's just software afterall. I love the hardware in this thing. It suits me well.

As for the unlocked bootloader? Yeah, that really sucks. That's a blatant lie from Motorola, if you ask me. But, on the other hand, as a company they have bigger fish to fry right now. Something about a merger, maybe?

Lol your right but you know how it is when you're ranting!

I can wait on ICS too but I wish I would have had the choice between the Razr and Razr Maxx. I would have went with the Maxx hands down.

Might have something to do with the fact that google can't even get it to work on their previous nexus devices ... Which ics was supposedly designed to be compatible with. Also, has anyone had phones from the other major manufacturers. I can vouch for HTC not being stellar on following through with promises in a timely manor (or ever). It's not as if the grass is greener elsewhere. I've come to the conclusion that a hazard of Android is that when you but a device you can never be sure you'll you will get any update, ever. If I wanted to be sure of getting updates immediately I could get an iPhone ... But that is a trade off I for one an not willing to make.

I've never really understood that logic. Apple can guarantee updates to their devices, because each incremental iOS version is only a marginal improvement over the last one. Android updates are generally vast improvements in both the UI and the behind the scenes mechanics, and they honestly come out about as often as Apple updates (come out as in show up on phones). It's just that Apple doesn't talk about any of the ugly behind the scenes stuff.

Not sure I will jump on the ICS bandwagon until it is confirmed for root and wifi tether options are still there.

I can see the ICS effort also being to squash root stuff. Just the paranoid me, perhaps. None the less- me wait. GB 2.3.6 is working fine for me.

I suspect the issue here is verizon and not moto esp given that the non -usa version (i.e, non verizon version) is scheduled to get ICS (though not as quick as I thought).
-
While a Q3 delay is not the end of the world (esp with app issues under ICS); I suspect there are issues with verizon and ICS (some speculation I would throw out include uipdating their apps (that no one wants) to work under ICS to disabling the disable feature).
-
Anyways time will tell.

If you look at the whole chart, no Verizon devices are "scheduled". That certainly suggests the issue is on Verizon's side, or at the very least Verizon doesn't want to give any information about when the updates will occur.

That's also because apple controls the software and the hardware. They can enforce relationships and test software internally for as long as they like. Further, since there is no race between manufacturers to get the latest iOs on there device (again, because there is only one manufacturer), they don't have to tell anyone anything and there is no jealously, just anticipation. It's wonderful as long as you are willing to accept that apple alone dictates all features and software on your device.

Buy a phone that is developer friendly and you'll get timely updates and a slew of ROMs available....that is the path I'm going to follow from now on. Lesson learned. Read the book, don't wait for the movie....

And you'll also get a mess like the Galaxy Nexus which has some performance issues that affect basic phone functionality, and OS issues that are frankly embarrassing. I have a solidly working Android phone that operates spectacularly as a phone, and is pretty damn ok as a smartphone. I'm not dealing with truly terrible battery life or incompatible apps that I used to rely on.

Moto has done more performance and functionality improvements to the Razr family while Google is still trying to work out ICS bugs and Samsung is trying to make the phoney part work. Why do you think the Gnex was launched nearly TWO MONTHS after the initial unveil? The.173 update alone had greatly increased battery life in standby, which is huge.

So, ok, complain about how screwed we are, but keep in mind, just this one time, it really is working out in our favor.

Have you ever actually owned/used a Gnex? Just curious is all.

^ To prevent this thread from going toooo far astray, it might be best to take that conversation to PM. :)

It gets here when it gets here. I want more support and the bugs worked out before they push it. Only 1% of android devices are running ICS. I had a nexus for three days and returned it after 3 days, ICS problems is just one of the reasons I returned it and got a razr. I would rather wait for ICS to become more widely used and more app support before they push it.

Agree, but it would be nice if the razr was more developer/ rom friendly.
