Accessories Motorola Roadster

The FM transmitter on my roadster does not work at all. Has anybody else had the same problem with this unit? Well...I mean it doesn't work if I have the unit placed on my visor (where it belongs). If I move it to a better location I can kind of get it to work - meaning I can hear some faint music so I do know it is transmitting.. just incredibly weak. I have used transmitters for years and this is by far the worse. Very disappointing.

My transmitter works great, but it does not read my phone book contacts, even though it requests and is given permission.

My FM transmitter worked pretty well in Houston... found some blank stations.

In Dallas, not so much... most stations I can hear static when listening to my music.

As far as knowing my contacts by name, yes... but only the easy ones like Josh Smith or something.

The voice to text thing from MotoSpeak is pretty neat... although it's probably faster to just text and drive

MotoSpeak was HORRIBLE - Never understood what I was saying (I dont have any accents). The FM modulator was ok but I would never use it since my car stereo has built-in Bluetooth. I dont really need this unit for anything, it turns out. The main attraction was the MotoSpeak but it is unusable as is.

lol why did you buy it? $100 (or $40 if you got that slickdeal)... for just the motospeak thing?

I got it because my car doesn't have bluetooth or an AUX connection, so this was my best bet at listening to music in my car through my phone. Also, it gives me hands free talking while driving.... and the motospeak thing is really just a bonus I never use anyway.

I have a fairly long commute and like the Dan Patrick show... so I put the show on my phone and play it in my car on my drive to and from work.... makes the drive go by faster.

Even if I end up not even using FM transmitter, the speaker itself on the roadster is pretty loud.

lol..yea...I asked that myself after I got it. Actually, I got it because my car stereo broke and had to replace it. So I first got a HU without any BT or USB port. And then the Roadster. Then I realized that I wanted a HU with w USB port. So now I have a HU with USB/AUX on the front plate which gives me all kinds of options to play my MP3 + stream Pandora and internet radio via Aux connection. Short drives, I just listen to the local radio or MP3 in my USB flash drive. In longer drives, I will wire up my EVO through the AUX port. The reason I did not get the HU with BT is because I have heard mixed reviews of calling through BT in a HU....Many claim the other party just can not hear them well - even with the extended mic located on the sun visor. Further, I tested calling directly from my EVO set on a car mount (and using the AUX port to listen MP3, stream and listen cell calls through my car speakers) and the other party says my calls are very clear. So I didnt need the BT car HU.

Yea - I have a bunch of stuff to sell on ebay. Ha ha.... Btw - I paid $50 for my Motorola Roadster.

Ok maybe I judged the roadster too harshly/quickly. I have now found one station that will give me about 90% actual transmit and only 10% static (for most of the time)... bareable I guess. As for contacts, so far I have not had it recognize any contacts. It will just say the phone number instead of the contact name. I still need to play with it more, though. Overall it seems like a decent unit - but I am glad I did not pay full price for it.

Yeah, I'd be pretty upset if I paid $100 for it. I paid $40 after a 60% coupon.

Are we supposed to program the names in? When someone calls me, it'll say the phone number...

but it lets me press the button where I say "call John Smith" and it is pretty accurate for all my contacts that way.... just not incoming.

I'm thinking of getting the Roadster for use with my HTC incredible because I travel a lot and would like the ability for hands free texting/calling. But more than anything I would like the ability to listen to Pandora. I read this review Motorola Roadster Review [In-Car Bluetooth Speakerphone] | Android Community where they say they couldn't get it to work with Pandora. Does anyone have any experience getting it to work?

Welcome to the forums.

I have never had a problem getting my Roadster to play Pandora. It did however, take me a long time to get the FM transmitter to work very well. Now that I have found a station that works, though, I have had 0 issues with it. I find it works great. What issues were they having exactly? Would it play other things and just not Pandora?

I got my evo 4g to work with the Roadster and Pandora. I too have experienced an issue with signal quality via fm. But, Pandora does work without a hitch. I'm disappointed in the overall quality of the Roadster. When I speak to others, they tell me I sound muffled. Motorola's exchanged it for a brand new one under warranty but the same problem exists. Sadly, I was given a much cheaper Motorola bluetooth speakerphone that worked well. But, it was on the cheap side in comparison and I assumed not as good, so I gave it away. BIG mistake. I cannot honestly recommend the Motorola Roadster to anyone. I'd suggest users look at Plantronics and few others who make apparently better quality bluetooth speakerphones.

hey everyone

I just got the Motorola Roadster today for use with my EVO and the FM transmitter, etc. I'm not in my car right now of course, but I did pair it with my phone and it asked for my contacts and I allowed. I read that your phone has to be PBAP compatible - BT phonebook compatible so it can pull your contacts from your phone and then announce them when they call. Apparently the EVO is PBAP and got a big upgrade to make it better when 2.2 came out. I have yet to test it to see if any incoming calls are recognized.

What I did notice was when I pressed the voice command button, on my EVO's screen came up with three choices of services to use - Vlingo, Vlingo in Car and the crappy stock Voice Dialer. Vlingo in car somewhat worked - but after you give it a command you have to tap a button on the EVO screen to make the call - so I don't get how that's "handsfree?" ALso, the stock VOice Dialer is so incredibly awful - but it's the only service that works AS it should - meaning, when I click the command button on the Roadster, and choose VoiceDialer, it gives me prompts and I can say "Call 555-1234" or "Call mom at home" and then it reads back what you said and calls. The only problem being it doesn't correctly recognize ANYTHING I say - no matter how clearly or slowly I say it. I said "Call mom on mobile" and it called a random person from my contacts that didn't even RHYME with "Call mom on mobile!" Then I said "Call 555-1234" and it said "Calling 347-3488!" ARGH! I really wanted a handsfree BT/FM transmitter device like this (because I have no aux input) to work! I have downloaded MotoSPeak but am unsure what this does?

Anyone have any suggestions? Can I configure Vlingo to auto dial??

Thanks Jerry

I have the roadster tz700 and making calls and pairing is fine. My problem is the texting feature. Sometimes I can speak and it works then if phone sits for awhile and I need to text again.....nothing ..........motospeak is on and if I just use the speak feature on phone its fine....is anyone experiencing this issue at all.

Is your phone locking after being idle for a while? Mine will lock and Ihave to unlock it before using the outgoing features in the roadster.

Is there something I need to set up on the infuse to get this to work>?

What exactly is not working? What app are you using on your phone to connect via BT? Vlingo? etc? There should be no setup on your phone except to turn on BT and set it to discoverable. Are you running Gingerbread? 2.3.3?

My roadster works pretty good as well but most people I call say they can't hear me. I am using the HTC Sensation. Does anyone have any idea why or any suggestions. Thanks

I have 1 roadster in my car and another one in wife's car.

The problem is that my cellphone is pairing only with my roadster in my car, and wife's cellphone only with roadster in her car. We don't have smart phones. I tried to change a name of the roadsterd and it did not help.

Could you help me, please?
