Help Mounted / Unmounted SD Help

Looking for some help in understanding how and what this means.

First off, I generally get what each term means. But... I'm not sure how to go about fixing some issues. I'll give a couple of circumstances I've faced and wondering where to go and what to do:

  1. I have my phone connected to my computer and I click the youtube app it says " Cannot capture a video, Internal storage and SD card are not accessible." Okay, whatever, so I click options and upload bc I wanted to upload a vid from today and it says "SD card is unmounted or not available." Why and what does this mean?
  2. When I connect via USB to my car stereo and attempt to play some music it gives me the same 'SD card is unmounted or to go to a different mode' (can't remember specifically right now). What I do know is on the stereo it says 'No Device'. I reallllllly want to play my music thru the car stereo's USB port. :(

I am pretty sure my music is on my SD card, and at some point I got whichever mode I was in all screwed up bc at one point I couldn't access my music in my car anymore like I had been doing... somehow I fixed it but I'm not sure what I did. (As of right now I'm plugging the 3.5mm plug straight into my aux port on my stereo bc for some reason it won't work plugged into the dongle that is integrated into the usb plug for the cardock. - Haven't figured that out yet either.)

As far as when pc connected, I guess maybe the Motorola phone portal, media link on connection, and such different connections are confusing me and apparently limits certain things you can do at the same time. All I'm looking for is a way to easily understand the difference, or at least the basics like I mentioned of how to do what I need to quickly... whether it be going and changing something or whatever, just knowing what it means and I'm doing.

It seems like there's some more issues I've had dealing with this but that's the most important ones I can think of for now. I'll list any additional later if I can't figure them out.

When you connect to your computer a USB icon will be displayed in the notification area. Flick down the notification bar and set the connection for the operation you want.

when you plug your phone into your computer, you set the USB connection mode using the notification pull-down. When you set as 'usb storage', it will 'unmount' both the sd card and internal memory, so that your pc can access the files. In essance, this means your phone no longer has any storage IF you try using your phone at the same time. When you disconnect from your computer, the phone 'mounts' the storage back to the phone.

2nd method: when connecting phone to computer, when setting to 'do nothing' the internal storage will be accessible but the sd card will still 'unmount' as in the previous example, again making it unavailable to use on your phone.

the third connection option 'moto phone portal' seems to do the same as the 2nd, but appears to ensure correct drivers are uploaded to computer and opens a 'portal' to your phone, where you can access messages and such.

Whichever you use, for the most part, any files on your sd card are going to be unusable when connected to the computer
