I want to transfer music from my external sd card onto my galaxy tab 2 10.0. Any help on how to do that would be appreciated

I suggest you install ES file explorer from playstore. It's a file manager app.
The removable sd card is called ExtSdCard and appears as a folder. The interna storage is a folder called sdcard (confusing). Copy and paste your music files from one to the other. If you set your music app to save to the internal sdcard storage it will normally create the directory needed there so you have somewhere to move the files to.
