ok i don't understand i thought the movie format for our devices had to be MO4 format.. i took some movies and converted them to MP4 format and xfer'd them from my PC to my phone and they wont play... what am i doing wrong?

also does anyone know of a program that will auto determine sizes.. example is like Laewo. you can actually select your phone and convert it to files size but it doesnt have the NExus on there yet so i didnt buy it.

You'll want to make sure your codecs are set to h264 or h263 and your audio is codec aac

what is that your using

basically i want to also be able to watch them on my 55" TV when i go places also.. so i am looking to make sure they stay HD.. are there codec's i can get for the phone to play other files so i can use an MHL converter on my tv or does it not work that way lol

This isn't an iPhone. Most common formats work on this phone, you don't need to convert anything. Just use MX Video Player to play them.. for some reason the default player doesn't play some I guess. If you're trying to watch 720p h.264 videos in the .mkv container, they will play in mx player no problem. I haven't tried 1080p.

how to do i get my movies that are on itunes to play on the gnex? the m4v file wont play on gnex and these werent purchased thru itunes they were digital copies that were loaded on itunes when i had the movies. any help would be huge. thanks.

Think you can get the Aneesoft video converter to have a try,
Have different preset for different phone.

First, try simply changing the extension to .mp4 - I've read that making that change should make the files playable on other devices.

There are a number of 3rd party video players in the market - sorry, "the play store". Search around for recommendations and then see which ones are capable of playing that m4v filetype (if any - I think its a stupid Apple format). If you cannot find any that will play it, download Handbrake or some similar videoconverter and convert the videos to a format that isn't exclusive to the walled garden.

im trying handbrake and cant seem to get it to work. could you give a noob a brief walk through?? thanks all of you are very helpful

Digital copies through iTunes still have DRM, from what I've read. Just like if you had bought it through iTunes. So I would think that without removing the DRM, you could only use it on "iDevices", as they say. I'm sure there are still ways around it, but I don't know what they are.

If you still have the DVDs, it might just be easier to rip them. Of course, then they won't be in HD.

And thanks stenzor for the recommendation for MX video player. It's way better than the stock one.

It depends on what your goal is and what the resolution of your current files is. If they are DVD quality, that's actually lower than the screen resolution (720p) of the GN. If they are BluRay you may want to encode them down to 720p - assuming your goal is to watch on your GN? If you want to carry higher res versions to output to your TV or something that is different.

If you are just looking to watch ripped DVD files on your GN, I would just use the Android High Quality default preset. If you have hi-res versions (720p or higher) you should adjust the picture size settings. The GN screen is 1280w X 720h.

I don't have any hi-res movies to test, but assuming you have something in 720p I think you would want to rip to to a picture height of 720 and lock the aspect ratio.

Anyway, to use handbrake...
in the upper left click on source and find the file you want to convert. Set the destination for the output under destination. Over on the right are your preset file output settings. You can try clicking on Android High and converting a sample just to get the hang of it. To convert, once you've selected a file, destination and preset, then click on the big green start button at the top. You can click on "show Queue" at the top to monitor progress.

Keep in mind conversion is extremely slow. You might want to just try a small sample file first.

thanks... i actually got DVD Catalyst 4 and it has auto settings. so i just go to Galaxy Nexus. See what type of quality i want .. and click go and it converts dvds movie files w/e to the proper format i need to watch on my GN..thanks guys
