Help Movie format

Merry Christmas! I was just wondering if anyone would know what type of movies I can view on my LG G3? I mean what format : SD, HD, or HDX? I was going to purchase a couple via Vudu.

My question really comes down to whether or not I can play HDX, HD, or just SD movies on my stock LG G3, no additional players just the phone's player. Thanks.

Actually it boils down to this, sorry I'm not understanding, can I buy HD, and HDX movies from a site such as Vudu and they'll play on my LG G3? I have done this with SD movies with no problems.

Your LG G3 has pretty good hardware specs:

The CPU (system processor), GPU (graphics processor), RAM (system memory), and screen resolution (H x W pixels) are all pretty respectable, and are all in some way a part of how your G3 can handle video files.

The issue you're asking about has a lot to do with resolution. Your G3's screen resolution is 1440 x 2560 pixels. A SD video is 480p resolution, a HD video is 720 x 1280 resolution, and a HDX video is 1080 x 1920 resolution. So you should be OK. The issue is your G3 will have either 16 GB or 32 GB of storage capacity, and either one you have to account for the operating system, your apps, and whatever else you have saved to take up a few GBs of space. High resolution videos will take up A LOT of space, depending on a short movie or long one a HDX video will be several GBs in size so take that into account, the higher the resolution, the larger the file size will be. Depending on how much free space is on your G3 you can save several standard definition videos but probably just a few high def ones, or maybe just one or more HDX vids.

Maybe you might just want to watch your Vudu content as streaming vids instead of saving them to your G3? But again keep in mind that resolution/file size ratio issue, HDX video will also require more bandwidth. If your online connection has a data cap and you plan on watching a lot of online content, SD or HD video might work out better.

I have the Vudu app, I have SD movies purchased via Vudu in my Vudu library , but have never purchased HD or HDX movies. I don't want to buy a movie in HD or HDX and not have them play and waste $.
