Help Movie Player

Recently purchased S2, and very happy. 4 days ago, suddenly lost most of my movies to the LOST.DIR. Didnt know what it was so researched and found thats where my files were. Couldnt get them back so deleted the whole lot. Now, when I try to open movies in AVI and MP4, get "unsupported file type message". Have asked Samsung, both at service centre and online, service centre told me files were missing, only had the names. I smelled BS, so I asked Samsung online who told me to download VLC and play them in that!!! I have tried other programs from Market, but no luck. Recently put three movies on the ph in AVI format, and only one can be played in both stock player and MXVideo. Have also tried Mobi but no luck. I have obviously disturbed the system on the ph somehow, or maybe the movies are not suited. The movies are AVI, and I converted one to MP4 as a test, but still didnt play. Sorry, long story but could someone pls help???
