I have compressed DVD's to MP4 files using Handbrake (google it). they play just fine on my X.
Please note that the following settings are what I used for my old BB Storm1. I copied the files over to my DroidX SD card and they still work. I will be trying to reconvert using the updated information/settings from the 'Know your Cell' link listed above in this thread. What settings did you use? Is the audio in sync with the video?
I can confirm that some avi piles DO play.. some do not. Must be an encoding issue.
I could play a episode of kim possible, a episode of parker lewis can't loose, but could not play a three stooges short.
I DID find that rockplayer CAN play those avi 3 stooges episodes just fine.
I noticed when I tried to move something just now, that there is a maximum file size allowed.
Can that be changed, and if not, what is the maximum file size allowed? (I was oing to vcopy a 6.5 gig mkv file for test purposes.)
PLAYABLE FORMATS
AAC, H.263, H.264, MP3, MPEG-4, WAV, eAAC+, WMA v10, MIDI, AAC+
I just used this guide to convert vids for the X.

Rockplayer is on Android Market. Try it out.
It doesn't play MKV's correctly though.
Can you reformat the sd card in the newer format that allows larger files, or can;t the DX recognise those?
I have an m4v file that I am unable to convert using handbrake any ideas?
