Well i noticed when i put a mp4 movie on my phone it runs fine, but when i do avi it's really sluggish, anyone know why? or a better avi player app.

You can also try to make sure the resolution is 480x320. With some the players if they have convert resolution on the fly then they will slow down and case problems.
 
I use Handbrake. You can download it for free, just search for handbrake. Go to the settings at the bottom of the window and reset the resolution. You can also use it to convert your AVI files to MP4. Use the Iphone preset and change your max file size to 300mb, use two pass encoding, change your audio output to stereo. I don't have my laptop with me but I think those are the changes I made. This will give you a small enough file size to put a few movies on your card and still good playback.
