Help Moving a mp3 ringtone to internal memory

dorkbot

Newbie
How can I move a mp3 file from my sd card to my internal memory?

I have a Nexus S running 2.3.4. And it's not rooted.

Thanks!

Hi NightAngel,

I'm trying to movie the ringtone (mp3) to my phones internal memory. Only the USB storage is available when i plug my phone into my PC.

Thanks!

When you plug phone into computer 'as disk drive' you should get usb storage for SD card AND internal memory, 2 different drives.

Can also use astro file manager from the market

Oh really? Hmmm... Only the USB drive mounts on my Mac. I use "ES File Explorer", is that similar to "astro file manager"?

When I use File Explorer, I am able to get to the ringtone folder on my internal memory, but I can't copy anything there.

Thanks!

maybe its a mac problem?

i have had problems copying from sd to internal with astro before (same as ES really)

i keep all my ringtones on sd card anyway.. what are you trying to accomplish if i may ask?

Could be a Mac issue, I didn't know you could access the internal memory via your PC.

I would like to move my ringtone over to the internal memory because sometimes when i plug my phone in and mount the drive, the ringtones (notifications and alarms too) get set to their default setting, it's annoying. I was hoping that I could move the ringtones to the internal memory and that might prevent the annoying issue.

Thanks!

Ahh VERY common problem. Used to drive me CRAZY!! All you need for that to stop happening is to have the correct file structure

trying to find thread where it explains, its something like
[create these folders] Media/audio/ then create folder for notifications, ringtones, and alarms

I use zedge app for all my sounds and it automatically sets these folders up

still gonna try to dig this thread up

Oh yes, I did do that. the ringtones are in Media/Audio/(Alarms and Notifications and Ringtones), but for me having them in this folder doesn't prevent the issue : (

Using LG Connect (not rooted) 2.3.6 Gingerbread.. I set up folders /Sd card(AKA - no folder)/audio/rintones (or notifications, etc..), this did the trick for me. It takes a minute or 2 after disconnecting from PC to switch back to the correct ringtones (custom ones you set), this is because while connected as a mass storage device it cannot access the SD and therefore reverts to default tones. I believe moving the tone to internal memory would solve completely. Only problem now is while plugged in (mass storage) it has default ringtone. You can set your phone to charge only, ask every time you plug in etc.. alternatively, to avoid this. I think this is a work around that is good enough to satisfy even the heavy OCD users (myself).

Without the insight NightAngel79 provided I would have been very frustrated, Thank you. Now I don't have to keep resetting my phone.

EDIT: Eventually rooted my phone and used root file manager to move ringtones to system/media/audio (then appropriate folder from there), if you intend to erase the default ones, you have to keep the first on (the one with "01", this is valid for all the folders there). Now it keeps those tones even when usb mass storage :)

I've been reading this cause I have a samsung exhibit 4g and my custom ringtones only work about half the time and the other half they play the default ring. I've been looking all around for a fix. I'm not rooted, but if that will fix the problem I may have to.

Hopefully some of the tips here will work.
