Moving emails in Gmail to different labels?

On my Note2 in Gmail, I select an email, click on the dots, and choose to move it to another label and it disappears from my inbox.

HOWEVER, when I check Gmail on my computer, the email is still in my inbox, just with the new label assigned to it. Prior to the Gmail update for Android I was able to do this. How do I simply place an email into a new label/folder?

That is exactly what I do, though it still ends up in my main inbox when I check Gmail on my computer....

Gmail menu... Change labels works for me. Everything has the Inbox label by default so you have to remove that.

So are you saying that for every email in my inbox on my Android, I need to remove the inbox label so it stops showing up there, and then assign a new label that I want it to show up under?

In Gmail on my computer I always just select the email and use the Move to...

I just tried this, both from my handset and from the web app, on two old posts in my Inbox. Both moved successfully to another folder and disappeared from the Inbox.
