Help moving files

I connected my droid turbo to my computer with the USB cord to move ringtones I had downloaded to my notification file, but i have no notification file on my internal storage. i have searched through all the files and have found no where to be able to move my ringtones to be able to set them as a notification sound. anyone know how i can do this? i have downloaded several songs even bought some off of Verizon tones, but I'm only able to use them as my ringtone when i receive a phone call. they don't show up in my tones for text messages or anywhere else

Welcome to Android Forums.

Create a folder with the last level called notifications or ringtones. (I use \sdcard\tlanet\notifications) Place the new sound files in that folder.

You may need to reboot the system to have the folder(s) recognized the first time

The name of the sound file will appear in the notifications or ringtones list when accessed in settings.

I use ...
ES File Explorer File Manager – manipulate device and cloud folders and files
... or ...
X-plore – manipulate device and cloud folders and files

The folder structure that I added for my additions to my phones is called ...
\sdcard\tlanet
... with a subfolder of ...
\sdcard\tlanet\notifications

Thanks. And where does one create the folder and what do you use to do it?
You can create them anywhere in storage - at the root level, within any level of folders and sub folders. On my phone I have a folder called /media, and within that folders called ringtones, notifications, alarms, wallpapers, and music (the last two are not for the sound notification/ringtone/alarm pickers.)

As Thom suggested, my favorite tool on the phone is ES File Explorer, but you can do it from your computer while you are connected by USB as well.

Items in a folder called ringtones show up in the ringtone picker, items in a folder called notifications show up in the notification tone picker for various apps, and alarms - well, you get it. Notice the folder names are plural...
