Moving Internal Storage to SD Card?

Bucadyz

Newbie
The LG Optimus F3 comes with an app called file manager. This comes with 2 main files: "sdcard0" which i think is the storage already there and "external sd" which i think is my sd card i put in. In that app, i moved pictures and wallpapers from sdcard0 to external sd. After i downloaded a wallpaper and took a pictureand whatnot i checked storage and everything is still in internal storage, not the sd card. Also, even though i moved wallpapers to external sd, every time i download a wallpaper i have to move them individually from sd card 0 to external sd. I was puzzled.

So then I downloaded one of those apps "Apps2SD" and when I clicked on it my phone told me "Your phone has no external storage, or if it does it just emulates as external storage."

?

??

That's right. You'll have to root your F3 in order to take advantage of several mechanisms that allow some data to be moved to external SD.

Best root method:

This fix 'swaps' internal storage and external SD around. It sort of fools the F3 into thinking that the SD card is internal storage. Be extremely careful with using this, as some users have reported problems with some apps running with it. ...I know it's in here some place, just have some trouble finding it myself...

For most users, it's best to divide the external SD into two partitions. One big one for main, FAT32. Another for ext4, which should be at least 2.5 GB in size. The ext4 partition will store all the apps and data that will be linked back to internal memory, using a linker app like Link2SD. Even though the manual specifies that 32 GB is the max size limit for the external SD, it is possible to use larger cards, as long as there's a main FAT32 partition available for the F3 to use. I use a Transcend Class 10 card, 64 GB. There are even a few 128 GB cards out there... just reformat them, as these bigger cards are preformatted in NTFS.

Once rooted, you can remove a few of the infamous 'bloatware' apps. Here's a good list:

HTH :)

So I rooted my phone and I used an app to split the SD card into two parts like you instructed. When I go into LinkSD and press the Move to SD Card button (which wasn't there before, we're making progress) I get this:

App2SD is not supported by your device because your device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage. You can link the app in order to move its files to your SD card.

What does it mean by this?

App2SD is not supported. My understanding is that it is an android implementation from about 4.0+

Overall you should be successful using Link2SD. There are a couple of other options within the fourm for tricking the phone in reading the external SD as the internal, but I do not have much experience with it.

I use Link2SD and it has worked well for my needs.

I used link2sd. The message said app2sd for some reason but link2sd itself is not working for me.

I tried installing the .apk file. And when i click install it tells me im out of space and that i should manage applications. Even though i still have at least 500 mb of internal storage. And the file is like 300kb big. This is getting sketchy. :P

what apk file?

The link you gave me to the thread? Whenever i click create link on linksd it still doesnt work so i thought i had to follow the instructions in the thread first. The first step was to download an apk file that i cant install.

Could rooting have done this?

How did you root?

Can you identify steps you have completed.

Suggest following:
1. Saferoot
2. Open su app, update binary if needed
3. Install link2Sd
4. Open link2sd select mount ext4
5. Reboot
6. Configure link2sd to autolink
7. Filter user files select all
8. Unselect files phone needs to function. ex. Google play store and services
8. Link files
9. Reboot

This should give you some room.

There is no native app2sd on this phone. Use the create link button in the link2sd app. The other mod is like he said it tricks the phone into thinking the SD card is internal memory. I use both .

Go through and link all of the apps that you have installed yourself to the SD card. DO NOT LINK ANY ANDROID SPECIFOC APPS AS YOU WILL BRICK THE PHONE.

I see what you mean by click create link on link2sd. The option isnt bolded, like i cant click on it. I dont think i split my sd card correctly.

Okay so i finally figured out how to create link except i have a few question/problems:

1. I split my sd card into two 4gb sections, i can see the external storage has reduced to 4, but internal has not changed at all. Where did those 4 go?

2. I still cant download any updates or apps. Like my phone says theres no space. And ive tried cache clearing, app deleting, etc. Nothing works, but i still have a lot of space.

3. I clicked create link on some pretty big apps, but then i go to storage and it shows that they are still in internal storage, like the sd amount is not decreasing at all.

These are just some things i need help with. In general, the main problem was solved, i can now link apps to my sd card. Thanks for all your help. But i could still use more apparently. :P

Because you split the external storage (your SD card).

but internal has not changed at all.
It shouldn't, since partitioning the SD card doesn't do anything to any other storage, just to the SD card.

Where did those 4 go?
The 4 you see is the FAT32 partition. You can't see the ext4 partition.

2. I still cant download any updates or apps. Like my phone says theres no space. And ive tried cache clearing, app deleting, etc. Nothing works, but i still have a lot of space.
But not enough to install apps. The OS needs a certain minimum amount of free storage.

3. I clicked create link on some pretty big apps, but then i go to storage and it shows that they are still in internal storage, like the sd amount is not decreasing at all.
The app should be moved to the SD card. You'll still see the name of the app on internal storage - that's the link you're looking at. Android looks for the app in internal storage. It sees the link and gets "redirected" to the app in the SD card.
