Moving on...?

I have the Spec and have enjoyed it thus far. My wife has been due for an upgrade for awhile now. She really likes the white S III. I would actually prefer to have the same phone as her and am pretty impressed with the S III as well.

Anyone else thinking of jumping ship? Am I crazy?

first off the phone isnt even out yet. And verizon hasn't announced a date for whne it will be. You would* definitely be crazy if you left verizon for a phone.

Also I say you're crazy since so many of the specs of the s3 are going to be out done within a couple months of it's release. If you want a new phone wait until fall.

Come this fall you are going to have 1080p screen, 2GB of ram, 12+ MP camera's, and not to mention jelly bean will be out. LG already has 2GB ram phones overseas.

For me I think people are silly to buy the s3 because it's basically packed with tech that is already old

no it's not just you. I've been playing around with the idea of getting something else too. although the random reboots have stopped in the past few days. I do love the display and video recording quality on this phone but at times I can't help but feel like this phone gets overwhelmed when doing too many different tasks at once. so to answer your question lol maybe I will.

the s3 has a quad core processor by the way. hey imu haven't seen u around in awhile what's up?

Been thinking about it since the HTC Evo LTE was announced. When I found out that the Spectrum had an S3 CPU and the Evo is coming with an S4. Kind of bad when they ship a high end product like the Spectrum 4 months before a new processor generation launches on another device.

I bought my spectrum for $200 used off-contract, so I still have my upgrade available.

I still can't see the application of a 1080p screen on a phone, even a 5.5" screen. I've always been a proponent of higher res screens, which is why I've never owned an iPhone... they took so long to finally get a decent resolution on the iPhone 4. Prior to the iP4 pretty much all of their competitors had higher resolution screens... Windows Mobile, Android, and even RIM/Blackberry had higher resolution screens than the IP1-3GS. But beyond 720p, I don't see the point unless it's Pentile 1080p, which might have it's uses.

I'd like better graphics than what the S4 chip provides... and 2GB RAM, Ext Battery, SD Card, and a 5" + screen. Hopefully HTC's rumored Note competitor with the S4 Pro chip in it will meet my needs, even though it'll probably screw me out of my unlimited data plan to get it. And it probably won't have an ext battery... and it probably won't have a SD card slot...

I'm actually not sure that there will be 1080p screens this year for sure but it is being rumored to be in the future. I know for sure that we will be seeing 2GB of ram phones become the norm since LG already has one released overseas and has another scheduled for release later this year. Really while everyone is looking at HTC and samsung, LG has some amazing phones coming out that for some reason are being ignored. LG really needs to work on marketing.

Agreed. The only reason mid-level users even get the Galaxy is for the huge dev support (I'm not sure it's unlocked, like the Nexus is). The phone itself is a dog in comparison testing to the Spectrum.

How is it a dog exactly? While it's not some amazing leap in technology, I fail to see how it is inferior to the Spectrum in any way? More RAM, faster AND more efficient processor (A15 vs A9 cores), larger battery, etc. The only negatives could be depending on your taste as far as screen tech goes (IPS vs SAMOLED/Pentile). Radio performance is yet to be seen.

I fail to see why anyone would recommend the Spectrum over the S3. It's not enough of a difference IMO to upgrade from the spectrum to the S3, but that doesn't mean it's not an upgrade in practically every way.

Until people run antutu tests and compare them to the spectrum, I'll stand by my statement. The S2 and Nexus don't hold a candle to the Spectrum, so unless it's some amazing advancement in Samsung tech, it'll still be second to the spectrum.

It's been a few days lol. Just been busy and getting bored with these forums and the phone stuff in general. But i'll still be lurking around seeing if we get any updates to roms, or what the latest news is.

well it is getting high bench scores from what i'm seeing but to me it's stil not worth getting because it, and the htc one x are just the best of a dying breed.

Anyone thinking about upgrading really should wait until fall. Google announced jelly bean will hit in the fall (unfortunately on another samsung I'm sure) and the hardware is about to take another leap. The only big jump the s3 and the one x has made for phones is the quad-core cpu. They still only have 1GB of ram, 8MP camera's, and 720p screens. This is all about to change! People really should just be patient and get a new phone this fall. It's only a few months away.

You say more ram. The s3 is 1GB right? All the articles I've read say it's 1GB, which is the same as the spectrum. I did hear there is an overseas version that has 2GB but I don't think that is being released here.

Verizon announces Galaxy S3 pre-sale opportunity for June 6th
Dual core S4 processor, and 2GB of RAM. Should help if they end up getting ubuntu working on it.

The Galaxy S3 we get here in the states should bench out at roughly the same numbers as the HTC One X on AT&T, which also has the S4 processor, but only 1GB of RAM. And benchmarks for the AT&T OneX are significantly faster than the Spectrum.

Yea, but I've read some tech writers that's say a quad core in a phone is just overkill and they're can't be fully utilized. Hell, I've got an i5 quad on my laptop and it's rarely utilized fully and I produce music on it. So how could we possibly make use of a quad that runs small apks?

I'm going to try to find the last article I read on techcrunch... It was more eloquent about the matter than I.

Thanks for the input guys! I was excited to see that the US version of the SIII would be getting 2GB of ram since it was getting the S4 due to the supposed troubles with quad-cores and the LTE network. And I've also heard what's been said that no phone really needs a quad-core anyway.

I'm on Verizon right now and it's basically my only choice for carrier which means no One-X or Note or anything else I really want.

I've enjoyed the Spec so far aside from it being hampered by LG. Ever since I've found this forum, I've been really pleased with the Spec and have felt that is hasn't gotten fair shake.

I have no problem waiting until the fall and definitely won't be pre-ordering the SGS3 any time soon. Although, VZW is willing to buy back the phone for $86. I could always sell it outright I suppose too. Again, I'm definitely not desperate to switch or anything - just curious what folks with way more experience than me thought.

Yeah from what I understand the Quad-core processors at the time, aren't LTE supporting, that is why we have dual core SIII's here, from what I understand though, T-Mo could have the quad-core, due to the fact that they use HSPA+, instead of true "4g" technology, but for whatever reason, they only decided to offer the dual core, but as previously stated, what kind of apps do we have that will really need a Quad Core machine at the time? Nothing...I mean the 2GB of RAM is a nice touch, but as previously stated, nothing worth getting your panties in a wad over.

IMO, when as previously stated, Jelly Bean is released with a Quad-Core phone, I might consider upgrading, because at that point, we might be looking at some seriously GAMING phones, or something insane at that point.

ADD: also, just to throw it in, AT&T is offering a RED SIII, for whatever reason, it's an exclusive for them....

Bah, I am not switching. I love this phone. I am no technophile or needing to make a music video with my phone, while downloading the HongKong phonebook either. It just seems light years ahead of my last phone becuause it IS!

The battery life sucks and that is the only downfall I can see other than lack of accessories but big whoop there too. I don't think someone will give me a fashion award for wearing docksiders, cargo shorts and a giant phone on my hip anyway no matter what color the case is.

I'm planning on running the wheels off this phone.

I read an article today that htc may be releasing a 5in display phone with a 1080p display for verizon this fall. So it appears we may have 1080p options before years end. So for me this just reinforces my earlier point, that getting an s3 now is a waste since all the s3 owners are really going to be hating their 720p display when the 1080p's hit. I'll keep my spectrum for a long time to come I'm sure because i like the phone and it does what I want it to. But if, or rather when I upgrade, it's not going to be to another 720p display with a slightly larger screen. May as well make it a true upgrade, which for me means 1080p 5in display with at least 2GB of ram and 12MP camera :]

I'd rather have a higher quality camera sensor, I used to be an assistant photographer to a lady that used an 8mp Nikon to make billboards put on the side of the interstate (let me tell you it was freaking awesome to point to them and say "I helped do that!" especially when you saw three or four of them on one car trip).

Personally if I could get an early upgrade to a S4 CPU phone, I would not even blink before taking it.

Well, it's official. I am moving on from the Spec...to an LG Cosmos.

I'll let you recover from your fit of laughter. ;)

This post is my own opinion regarding my own situation. I cast no judgment on your preferences or your life choices.

I'm tired of Verizon. Well moreover, I'm tired of the games they play. However, I do owe them a bit of gratitude. With the introduction of their new Share Everything Plan, I had an epiphany. Their plans were so absurd, I was shaken out of the stupor of believing I needed a smartphone.

I'm giving Verizon over $2200 a year. For what, exactly? More precisely, I'm paying them $45/mo for data ($30 for my line and $15 for my wife). For what? So I can check FB? Big deal. Really the only thing I care about checking fairly often is Twitter. That's it.

So I'm paying $30/mo for my phone to check Twitter. NOT. WORTH. IT.

I'm done! I'm free! I'm going in to Verizon today to swap out my Spec (which I really have enjoyed using) for my old Cosmos I've had laying around. I'm going to sell the Spec on eBay...or if anyone here is interested....;)

I do want to say thanks to everyone here. You made my adventure with the Spec greatly enjoyable!

Thank you!

PS

I'm not going completely off the Android grid. I've still got my Transformer to enjoy my daily dose of ICS deliciousness.

I bought the Spectrum new off ebay and didn't use the upgrade from my AMOLED DROID Incredible. But now I'm moving from my Spectrum to an SGS3, but only to grandfather in unlimited data.

I don't mind the cost at this point because I'm on a family plan with my sister. I pay $55 per month for unlimited texts and data, along with sharing her 2000 minutes per month. I don't have a landline phone so I consider this an outrageous deal, especially when I was paying $37 per month for a landline and $70 per month for a dumbphone (both to AT&T).

I'm looking forward to getting a new gadget. I'm also looking forward to possibly moving on to another carrier after this two years is up. We'll see what's available by then.

I'd be offering it on eBay for $200 OBO. It's clean, been babied, etc. It's rooted right now. I was going to return it to stock to put on eBay. I've got the original box and everything for it as well as the original screen protector on it. I'll throw in the case/holster I've been using.

I know this was back a few days, but I have a 6 core amd phenom ii and it is daily pegged at 100% I just upgraded to it from a quad core last fall and I am already wishing for an eight core. If only I could afford the high end Intel cpu s

Most of the time it is transcoding video from old vhs tapes or previously transcoded files that were not done in h264 the first time around.

as far as cpus for desktop pcs go you cant beat an intel i5 2500k or i7 2600k for the money. go on anandtech and look at the benchmark comparisons. They even beat intels 1000 dollar chips in a lot of benchmarks...though It's been a long time since I've looked, so they may have some new stuff that really blows them away in the 1000 dollar range.
