Help moving to Spain with Thunderbolt

Hey folks,

I have a Thunderbolt and plan to cancel my Verizon plan when I move to Spain.

Once in Spain, can I put a local SIM card into my phone and use it for local calls/texts?

Then, can I continue to access the internet via WiFi, where available?

Thanks!

Is there CDMA in Spain? A quick Google search turns up information that you would need a GSM phone in Spain.

The SIM in the TB is only for 4G service, it still uses Verizon's "legacy" CDMA network for voice service. For the record, the cell radios in the TB are CDMA 850 / 1900 and LTE 750 (those numbers are the mHz they run on, the LTE is what the SIM is for). If Spain has service on those frequencies you may be able to track down a carrier to activate it.

Again, just because there's a SIM slot does not mean that SIM slot will give you the ability to use it overseas. In this case, you can't, that SIM slot is only for Verizon's LTE service in the US.

Thank you, mplevy!

I'm a little slow with the phone lingo, but I think I get what you're saying.

So, if Spain has CDMA850/1900 or LTE 750 network, I could get my phone to work with the existing card, if a carrier were to activate it? And, I cannot put any other card in my SIM slot.

I think I got it.

So, another question for those out there, is it easy to sell my used Thunderbolt?

Again, the SIM is only for the LTE, LTE is only 4G data. Even if you get that working you still wouldn't have voice service. If they have one of the CDMA services then it should work if you can find a carrier to activate it.
