Mozilla/Firefox OS?

Now if I can get that running on my Nokia smartphone and touchscreen feature phone I'll be a happy bunny. He did say it will run on lower spec phones.

I wonder how well it works on non-touchscreen phones.
 
Like mentioned its going to be for low budget phones for people that want a smart phone but can't afford the cost of one.

I personally think that it is amazing how they developed it. It is based off HTML5, all the animations are done with css and javascript. And all the apps are built in HTML5. They aren't deploying these in the US right now, they are going to be releasing them in South America first.

But looking at it, I think Apple will likely try to keep it out of the phone wars with what their home pages look like.

I guess I just find it interesting...or odd, given the success of Android [and, okay, Apple :rolleyes:], that others are even THINKING about jumping in. Who knows, any/all of these could turn out to be superior! And it will be nice for people who've been priced out of the smartphone market to have something being made with them in mind.
 
I myself don't see me going for any other device other than Android and I do think it is silly that there are new OSs that are trying to breech the market so late in the game, but I find that this one is different, they don't even care about sales he even said they aren't even out for a profit with the introduction with their new OS.

Linux also has a niche that they are trying to sneak in with, and that is integrating a full desktop pc into the phone. Where you can plug in and your phone is a fully functional desktop. Though I do believe that is what MS is trying to go with, with the introduction of windows 8.. trying to bridge the gap. Even my MS source mentioned something about combining PCs phone and tablets.

If you can offer something new to the game of OS you have a chance, though you may just get bought out

just in what going to happen with all the "Low Budget" tablets we have. What OS will mostly stick with those and which will leave right now its all android. That fruity company is to worried about profits to do low budget even though I think they are trying (realizing what idiots they are to shutout an entire group of potential buyers of course not sure they are that smart) to reach this arena as well following android. The mini tablet comes to mind something android has enjoyed the market on will mozilla or some other company start doing OS's for those and will android bail on them seeing that the market is getting flooded. Will that fruity company forget how to get to the courtroom and start allowing some real development to happen?
 
Message from dweeb geezer... I’ve been buying Windows beasts since ‘92, currently with an ‘05 HP. It’s becoming clear that those days are being replaced, but I cannot see what with. Still waiting for the next obvious monster.

I don't know. This particular product, the Mozilla/Firefox mobile OS, at least right now is for phones, not tablets. If it, and others, eventually go to tablets, who knows? It's always possible that something will come along that's truly innovative in some way the others are not, perhaps in its pricing, and it'll leap ahead of others. Competition can be a good thing, so we may soon see really good quality tablets at very low prices.
 
i cannot imagine it being any bit as customizable as Android. no widgets, no custom launchers, in fact it may be tied to the cloud like ChromeOS and need an active data connection. sounds to me like a clone of the interface used on the LG900G feature phone, aka smartphone wannabe. oh it could do apps, Facebook, G+, GPS, even play back music and browse the mobile web. but there were so many limits. no customization....and hardly any apps other than what i just listed. a feature phone under a new skin is still a feature phone. cannot see it getting any different than the recent failings of WebOS and Symbian

Anyone remember the 'custom OS' hacks that people used to do to older Moto RAZRs? aren't those days done?
