Mugen Extended Use Battery for Commando

Really?
That's weird.
I even double checked before I made that post just so
I wouldn't be giving you BAD info.
Looks like it's still in stock if you want to return
the one from Amazon and save $20. ;)

Type this into the search box and it will pop right up:

I was finally able to test out the battery out under my normal using conditions.
(I feel that I'm a pretty light user)
Only 30min-1hr of call time per day.
Maybe 20 text messages on average.
General web browsing is probably less than 30 minutes a day.
A few emails.
I don't use the phone for movies, tv, or music.
I don't have any crazy apps running, just the standards.
It lasted 2 full days for me, that's it.
That was also with turning it off each night at bedtime.
Only 3G use, no wifi.
No Bluetooth.
No GPS.

My bottom line is that the battery is a WASTE OF MONEY.

Final Thoughts:
Over all this battery did last longer than my OEM battery, but by very little.
As far as I'm concerned this really isn't an EXTENDED battery
in the way that most of us would think it is.
I would only consider it an overpriced back-up battery that has just a little more juice.
Just as Cbreze had stated in another thread,
it only holds 18% more than the OEM.
From my experience that 18% didn't amount to squat.
I was hoping for better results, but the reality of it is that I
should've done the math ahead of time because math doesn't lie.
Just my $.02 :)

BT, we seem to be in agreement on the battery. The 18% seems more like 10% as the days go by. In any case I like having a 2nd on hand, but not at $45. So unless it suddenly gets noticeably better in the next few days I'm resigned to having an only "slightly" better battery. I have to give it a thumbs down and would not recommend it to anyone.
I do leave my phone on 24/7 tho and I DO get thru a whole day for my normal stuff, so that's good, just not great. I don't mind charging daily tho. I guess it is what it is and it is NOT worth the coin. :(

Now I feel like a douche bag for ordering one. My battery only lasts like half a day as is. Most of the time at work my phone is searching for service because the building I work in is so damn thick. And I play games alot at work.

Maybe you'll get better results;)
Considering your situation if I were you I might try turning off the phone portion if your constantly searching. The various settings can be set on screen with an icon to get you there fast, also how about charging at work? Do-able?
If you don't have a cradle they are really nice and Verizon's site gives a discount if your signed in for 22.95 I think. Better than the $30 full price and free shipping.
But do let us know your experience with your new battery.:)

Yeah, I do end up charging at work. Most of the guys have androids, and it's the same cord for all androids. Why this phone came with a short stubby cord, I don't know. And the cord that came with the phone seems lose and will disconnect while plugged directly into the phone. I guess I could start bringing the cradle to work.
I would just put my phone in airplane mode at work, but I can receive and send texts sporadically.

FWIW> I have a few launchers in my commando file and was wondering if maybe one over another would give better battery life. I was using "go launcher" since I got the new battery, so I'm trying diff ones as a test for juice use. Using "launcher 7" today. I always seem to come back to this one as it is so nice, simple and the fastest of all so far, also uses the least RAM. Still have launcher pro, mobile shell and the oem(yuck). I may not go back to that boring one.LOL!!
If anything interesting crops up I'll letcha know. :)

If you're feeling that strongly about it,
you can always just write "return to sender" on the package when it arrives.
I think that ebay member uses USPS that has tracking.
That way you can track the package going back to him.

Or....
if you don't mind paying the shipping back
you could always try out the battery and send it back within
7 days for a refund if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not sure what his refund conditions are though.
The Mugen package opens and closes without a problem. *hint*
A bit dishonest in my opinion, but the option is there. ;)

I'm not sure why your cable is loose.
Mine fits pretty snug.
You could always buy a cradle for work.
Actually you could buy another cradle AND an extra oem battery
for about the same cost as this Mugen battery.
(yeah...I'm still a little bitter about my purchase)

Ok, well maybe I'll hang back on the Mugen battery unless I hear better results and/or a price drop.

I'll have to check out the Launcher 7. I like the GO Launcher, but it does seem to be overqualified for the way I use it.

For those who found sunrise/sunset to be an hour off in G'z Gear, see my Tips post.

If I buy something that's supposed to be tough, I'm going to put it through the wringer. I do alot of outdoors/physical work. I'd rather have something fail me in practice than when I fall and land on it.

No prob jova. Just seems kind of extreme that's all. I got mine for the accidental possibles that could happen. A simple drop, dust under glass, hitting a puddle etc. Never thought to throw it against a wall as a test of strength, maybe you got something there.

Regarding the 1800 battery, I've been doing some personal observations testing. I have "go launcher", "launcher pro", "Launcher 7" and "SPB Mobile shell" on my commando and have been swapping them around while observing battery life. Well I got a result I didn't expect. The first 3 use the least amount of RAM with MS using a really large amount of RAM's operating resources. With the first 3 I would have about 200MB of free RAM left over. With MS I would have around 110MB left over. Well guess which one has the best battery optimization so far? Mobile Shell. This is surprising in a way as I thought the more operating resources used, the more power used. Apparently that thought is going out the window over here at the cbreze testing labs.;)
I'm planning on using the SPB shell for awhile as it rocks anyway and if battery life is better than ???? What's the rub? I'm very typical in my phone usage day to day being very much the same. Usually I was going to bed with around 12% left. My bedtime is in about 6 hours or so and I'm at 70%. Maybe it's a fluke. I'll keep you updated.

That's very interesting.
I wouldn't have thought about going through that extra check.
It kind of makes sense though if you think about it.
The stock launcher is the only one of them that was actually
optimized for this devise.
It would stand to reason that it would get the best results.
But like I said, I sure wouldn't have given that part a second thought.
Let us know what you find.

If that's indeed the case,
then it would make sense to switch back to stock when you KNOW
you're going to have a busy day, or going to be away from the charger
for longer than normal.
Good tip man. :)

Not talking about the stock launcher. SPB's mobile shell. I'm on my way to bed now and I'm 20% higher than any other time since I've had the 1800. All the other launchers were the same, no different. This one's different and for the better it looks like. Uses more RAM than anything else. Weird, but nice. I'm always going to have to charge nightly, but just find this little demo interesting.

Oh...I misunderstood.
Just at a quick glance, it looks to be 3D.
Probably why it eats the RAM, eh?
How does everything else perform when it's eating up that much?
$15 is kinda pricey for something like that, imo.

Just for shits and giggles...
did you ever TRY the stock launcher with the new battery?
Makes me wonder, because like I just said, thats the only one that
has supposedly been optimized for this phone.
I never tried going back to it just because I like Launcher Pro as much as I do.

Yeah $15 is kinda pricey imo also, but it's a very nice app. It doesn't slow down the phone at all, but I have most of the screens disabled and use only 3. Used to use all tho and it was still quick. I think I like launcher pro better tho. I find myself changing them up from one day to the next. Variety is where it's at. ;)

So far my battery lasts at least two days before needing a charge, usually longer. Granted, I am a "light" user compared to most of you. I followed the instructions that came with the battery and let the battery charge and fully discharge a couple cycles before putting it to regular use. Does it last longer than an OEM battery? Yes. Much longer? For me, yes but YMMV based on usage and expectations. Any problems with reliability? No. Worth the price, even if is is only 18% better than an OEM? For me, yes. I know I could buy another OEM battery or two for the price, but I didn't want to risk losing watertight integrity by repeatedly opening the battery compartment plus I find it easier just to have the one battery to deal with.

On my prior G'zOnes, Casio came out with oversized, extended batteries which included a new back. Maybe they will do the same with the Commando.

Yep. YMMV is always the bottom line when buying slightly larger batteries. I have had several of the 1800's with various devices over the years, mainly because I didn't want to comprise the back with a bulging door. I completely agree the need to not open the door alot. I have mine open maybe 3 times since May. One was to install the 1800. So one battery to deal with is def my preference. While I thought the battery over priced, I'm happy with it as it now gets me thru a full day. I ask for no more than that.
A side note for you eltee since you seem to get the best battery life, which launcher do you use? A 3rd party market app or the oem stock? Reason I ask is my experience seems to be differing amounts of battery life with the various launchers. I found mobile shell, the biggest RAM hog of all to have the best battery life in a test I did over a few days. i have not tried the oem stock launcher/ui simply because I dislike it so much. So what's your choice? Might be why you get such good battery life besides your light usage.

Sorry I am such a newbie smartphone user... but what is a launcher? I presume it has nothing to do with projectiles and imagine it is the startup sequence? It is OEM. I have done nothing to my phone but add a couple of apps. I am totally new at this. I am learning from reading stuff on this site

It's like taking the home screen off your commando, including that slide out arc launcher thing and replacing it with another fully configurable home screen with different options for other screens as well. You really ought to check it out sometime. Just do a search for launcher in the market. Launcher 7 is one of my favs, for it's simplicity and functionality, nice , as is launcher pro and go launcher.
I'm thinking one reason your getting such better battery life than the rest of us besides your being a light user is your using the phone as it came stock.
Nothing wrong with that, just helps explain why your battery life with the 1800 is so good. Try a diff launcher sometime, if you don't like it , delete it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Right? ;)

I think Eltee's battery is pretty much what the phone should do being mostly stock, how do you define light user? here is my basline for a stock stock user since most of yall seem to be running the fancy stuff:
I pull down from 100%-10% in about 50 hours.
I use the stock UI
My installed apps:
astro
doubletwist (for mp3s and videos)
full google toys, voice, maps etc
Maverick (rarely used for GPS on Cache when I'm out of signal)
Myxer
Power WIFI, configured to start all antennas on plug in and shut down all but sync unplugged
Raindar
Slacker
Swype beta
Tank Hero
WP Clock (I use an active background clock/battery/wifi monitor).

My Use:
1 hour of web browsing or gaming (Tank Hero currently) on 3g per day
30 mins of talk time per day
15-20 texts per day
~45 mins of slacker streaming to bluetooth in the car (also the only time BT is on)
WIFI is off all day unless I want to download something at home
Auto SYNC is always on
Auto Brightness on.
Sat on during the day for news/weather widget and raindar
active widgets: Sun/moon, google search, news and weather weather widget, power control widget, compass widget (usualy off).

Standards:
If Auto sync, sat and wifi are off and the phone idles I lose ~1%/Hour
If Auto sync and Sat are on at idle I lose ~1.5%Hour
I can run standalone GPS out side of service area for ~4 hour

I have thought about picking up the larger battery for those GPS needs, 4.5 hours would be better than 4 if I'm out on the trails trying to find a buddy stuck in the mud in the bronco, or if I get dissoriented chasing a deer through the woods...

John, you sound more light to medium in the usage. It's all relative tho. If your getting 50 hours out of a charge then that's great. being on the stock ui I'm sure makes a big diff. Those of us who mess with the custom launchers pay the price in battery usage. To each their own.
I've been kinda wondering about that new moto droid razor. It looks to have very good build quality also. Not commando specs, but good none the less and better than most. No battery options but stock with it tho. I'm going to keep an eye on those reviews.

I've been looking at that razr too for my wife, dang thing is wicked expensive though, I dont think i'll wait for the reviews though, I know a guy who got one on launch and is hell on gear so I'll see first hand if it's durrable and or easy brickable. I'll probably be the one that has to figure out how to un adware it after he downloads 500 shady adware supported apps and it slows to a crawl so I'll let you know how it runs sometime next week.
