Root multiple apps force closing

Newbie
I'm rooted running syndicate frozed standard, touchwiz instead of lp and I used the one click root. Everything has been fine until today, when messaging, noLed, calender and pandora all started force closing when I didn't even have them open. I uninstalled all but the calender, and messaging however it is still force closing.... like 4 or 5 times in an hour and back to back. oh also... I tried to reboot and my phone wiped itself. I had to clear everything and reflash my rom and am still getting force closes. Any ideas?

Something got corrupted. It is a no journaling rom and something like a battery pull can cause things to go awry. Did you do a battery pull or something like that before this started happening? Only way to fix it is to flash to stock and start over:-(

yes i did. dolphin hd kept freezing phone on me, stupid messed up update. well ok thanks. sooo odin back to stock reroot then all should be good?

I had this same issue with the Frozen ROM. A few times. Decided to try the midNIGHT ROM 5.2 instead and no problems so far.

rounsy - what's the difference between journaling & no journaling?

cool. thanks for the heads up. i think i will try out midnight. ive tried it b4 but if im not the only one having issues with frozen then..... yeah.... :D

Journaling is where it continually writes data, non journaling doesnt, thus performance boost at a risk. If you use a non journaling rom you dont ever want to do a battery pull if possible. Trust me, i just reminded my self of that the other day =-O

ok so i restored back to eb13 with odin. rerooted, wiped all data n stuff and flashed midnight rom standard. within like 10 mins of getting everything booted up the calendar was force closing again repeatedly. could if just be a bad calendar file? and if so where can i dl the apk so i can replace it.

I am running midNIGHT ROM 5.2, which is a non-journaling I believe. I do battery pulls all the time and haven't had an issue.

Would running a nandroid backup and then restoring enable journaling? Because I've done that.

No. Journaling is in the script of the rom i believe. So either you have it or you dont.

Did you also go back into recovery and install apks or the standard package? Sounds to me like you are missing and apk for the calendar. Either way it should be on your card under midnight extras. If not you can download it from his blog under android development. Hope that helps:-)

I rooted/flashed Syndicate ROM last week. Had to do a few battery pulls due to freezes on Monday. Did one this morning because Dolphin HD froze, and when I turned the phone back on, everything was force closing.

So far I have:

Tried wiping cache, nothing

Odin'd back to EC05 - now stuck in boot loop.

I think I should have Odin'd back to DI18 (or something before EC05), so I'm gonna try to go back to DI18. After that I will apply the EC05 update.zip via stock recovery, re-root, and apply Syndicate again.

Does this seem right?

I am getting killed by the FC's from the Syndicate Rom.

I did a Nano backup and then wiped data and cache 3 times and then restored nano and then as soon as it booted up more of just the FCs.

I followed these instructions

1 Flash the rom again
2 Let it boot
3 Go to cwm
4 Nano backup
5 Without exiting cmw, wipe 3 times and wipe dalvic cache
6 Restore your Nano backup(This will enable Journaling and prevent fc's if your phone freezes again)
7 If you can deal with ocasional DolphinHD freezes your done.If not then flash TwilightKernel and you wont get no more freezes but your camcorder wont work(but camera will).

Are there any other options? Just start completely over?

Same thing happened to me this morning. I just figured I would do a nandroid backup just to have it. When I rebooted the phone afterwards, I was greeted by these force closes. Had to restore to that very backup.

This issue happens quite often for me, and when it does, I just do a nandroid restore. I'm certain that journaling is enabled since I've restored before, but the issue continues. If it comes down to it...I may switch to Midnight ROM.

Also: I flashed Vision kernel and everything seems to be going alright so far....have you tried it?

I haven't tried new kernels yet, I use my camcorder often with the kids so I didn't want to lose that.

I just got my phone back to where it was right before I upgraded to 2.2 with a clean install, I didn't want to have to reload all the apps and settings again.

Even the best backups make it a pain to re-install and update everything.

Camcorder works with the Vision kernel.

It breaks if you revert to using the older Twilight kernel.

I was actually surprised today because my nandroid backup restored absolutely everything to my phone, and I didn't have to do anything. I thought I would have to redo everything as well.

Well I had to do about 5 battery pulls tonight in class.

It all started when Dolphin froze. I pulled the battery, reboot didn't work.

Pulled battery again, reboots, everything force closes. Pull battery, restore from nandroid backup, everything still force closes. Pull battery again. Boot up, everything freezes. Pull battery again, and now finally working.

Probably gonna flash Midnight...

I had the same issue with Frozen, flashed to midNIGHT and love it so far, amazing ROM and very quick.

Just a fyi guys, if you are having issues and do a nandroid guess what happens, you also save those issues too. Really the only useful part of the backup would be data but even that maay be questionable as some of it may have got corrupted causing you issues in the first place. I only do a nandroid when my phone is running as good as possible, that way i have something reliable to fall back to if something i did or something in general goes wrong. Also i reinstall all my apps via market whenever possible instead ofa backup, pita but saves a ton of headaches.

Apparently Frozen is a non-journaling ROM which means a battery pull can cause data corruption. I am on the journaling version of midNIGHT 5.2 and there are no force close issues after pulling the battery.

I'm not sure if this is a dead thread but the same thing is happening to me. I am new to the root world and am currently using frozen. What steps do i need to take to flash my phone back to complete stock root as it was when I first used one click. I believe it was eco5? If anyone knows please help me!
