Help Multiple Notifications - how do I delete them individually?

If I have multiple notifications up in the notifications bar, after I pull down the bar to see them, is there some way to delete them individually one at a time, instead of all of them at once? As far as I can see, the only option I have is to "clear" all of the notifications at the same time, which I may or may not want to do right then. Am I missing something simple here?

Tapping the notification will open the app and clear the notification. No one says you can't ignore the app.
