Multiple tasking

I have a friend with an iPhone. He is constantly teasing me because he can use Internet services while he is talking on his phone. I know it should be possible on an incredible because I can receive an email notification while I am talking on the phone. Is there an app for that?

It's only possible if you're on wifi. You can't get verizon data and voice simultaneously.

At&t uses different technology than verizon that allows simultaneous voice and data. It's a limitation of verizon's current 3G network, not the phone. Simultaneous voice and data will be possible with the 4G phones.

Most of use didn't know we couldn't use Voice and Data at the same time until Luke Wilson told us. It's a moot point for most of us that aren't hardcore business users. I've never had a reason to need it. It's also moot since it will be possible with 4G.

This doesn't mean that your phone cannot multitask though. Actually, your phone can multitask and his iPhone can't (even the the iPhone 4 can't truly multitask).

Next time you're in the car with your friend, do the following:

- Use Google Voice Search to start up Google Navigation to your destination.
- While Navigation is running, start your favorite music player and play your favorite song.
- While Google Navigation and the music player are running, open up the browser and surf the internet.
- When you get tired of the internet, switch to some Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, or whatever game you like. Remember to turn the game sound down, though, since you can do this while Google Navigation and the music player are running.
- Realize that your friend is giving you a very specific scenario to make himself feel better about his phone's lack of true multitasking.

And that this is the same scenario Mr. Jobs (and his friend Mr. Wilson) gave him to pay $XXX for his inferior phone with terrible service.
