Music apps cannot find music on external sd

Hi. I'm unsure where to post this but as I'm running Root box 3.9.1 I believe this is ROM related.

I usually use poweramp for my music playing but wanted to try jet audio. I was surprised to find that none of the music on the external SD (95% of my collection) showed up. I tried player pro which was the same. Poweramp is OK as I can manually select any folder on the phone but can't seem to do this with the other 2.

As its a new SD card and new ROM I wasnt sure where the problem was. I connected the card to a PC and found the card was in a RAW format. So I transferred everything off, reformatted as NTFS and transferred back. no improvement so I uninstalled the apps and reinstalled. Now they won't find any music on the external or internal cards.

I had tried remount SD which helped when the storage was in EMMC but hasn't helped here.

Anyone any ideas or is it a CM/AOKP thing I'm stuck with.

ensure you don't have any .nomedia files in any location that you want the media scanner to detect media files. Bear in mind this is recursive so a .nomedia file in /sdcard for example would ignore anything whatsoever on the internal sd card.

Also it might be worth running my media wipe script to attempt to rebuild all media cache and libraries.
