Help Music disappearing?!?!

Carimerr

Newbie
Somehow ANY new music I've transferred to my Droid on my SD card since last week gets erased, and FAST too. I added an album just now and quickly checked to see if it was there in a file browser, it was, so I tried to open it with the music app. As SOON as I did this the album was deleted and I got a "this file does not exist" error. Is this an error with my SD card or the Droid? Other files I've downloaded stay on the card, such as pictures and the like.

What kind of files? What apps do you have installed? What app are you using to play your music files?

Please don't bump - we're here to help, but it will take some time to respond sometimes. just bear with us.

As for the music disappearing - is all the old stuff still there? How are you transferring the files?

Sorry haha I won't bump again, I'm new here.

The old stuff is still there, and I am transferring via USB cable. Stuff I download over the internet is still present however.

When you transfer via USB, are you using Windows Explorer to transfer? Do you open the window for the SDCard? Are you letting the transfer finish before closing the window / disconnecting the cable? Could the cable be too loose and losing the connection?

yes, yes, yes, and no. Again, I found the files on my Droid but as soon as I went to open them with a music player they were gone.

I have never heard of that at all. Using AppBrain, make a list of your apps and post them here.

Run SDRescan and see if they come back. If not, then tell me how much free space is currently on your SDCard.

Just checked and saw that my LOST.DIR directory was about 4.7 GB, and since that is somewhat the Droid's recycle bin, that means that something on my phone is definitely deleting songs.

Yeah, that would seem like it. The obvious question is *why*. Also, if you have 8.99 free, and 4.7 in LOST, then that means you only have about 3 GB used without counting LOST - does that sound about right?

Also, is the music perhaps DRM enabled? If so, that may be why it keeps deleting it....just a guess, as I don't use anything like iTunes / other DRM encoded music in the first place...

Okay so I deleted doubletwist and tried reformatting the card, which all worked fine, and it started working again! But then i plugged back into the computer to transfer more music (earlier I just transferred my backup), and I got a delayed write error about halfway through. Now my Droid is showing my card as "blank or unsupported filesystem" and not letting it connect to my computer via usb, or format it. Is there anything I can do or should I just buy a new card?

A lot of people have noticed that the SDCard had stopped playing nicely - I ran into it too.

I ended up having to format the cad in Windows using a full format (not quick) - it failed the first two times, and finally succeeded the third time. Haven't had an issue with the card since.

Yeah, well my computer won't even recognize my sd card, let alone format it. So I just stopped at office depot and payed twice what I would've payed on eBay for a 8gb.

This happened to me once; it was because I did not do a Safely Remove Hardware step before disconnecting from the USB port. It hasn't happened since adding that step... :o

Wow. I never do the safely disconnect thing! That was definitely my problem then! Thanks a ton!

Wasn't doing it either and hadn't been a problem until that one time; did a Google search and found the description and how to avoid it, glad you find it useful too!
