Help Music format Q

Just got my Desire. Holy crap is it awesome.

So I'm putting some tunes on there, and notice a lot of my music is in AAC format. It plays just fine, but is MP3 better?
When I rip a CD to my computer (old Dell notebook w/ Windows Media or an old iTunes program), I can't figure out a way to convert to MP3s. Of course, I am pretty computer stupid.

Comments? Suggestions? Point and laugh?

AAC is better quality than MP3, but takes up more space. Personally, I wouldn't convert it, but I'm semi-audiophilic

If you do want to convert it, do a quick Google search for a AAC - MP3 converter.

Say no more. I'm semi-audiophilic as well, and not too concerned with space.
