Help Music Player Thinks Ringtone Is a Song

Stuntman

Android Expert
I have a ringtone in a WAV format. I stored it in a folder called Ringtone. All of my music is stored in the Music folder. When I set my music player to play all of my songs, it thinks that my ringtone is a song and would play it as a song.

Is there a way to set up the music player to exclude my ringtone when it is playing my songs?

No, but what you want can be accomplished in other ways. ;)

Method 1:
Open Notepad (or similar), immediately select "Save as...", choose "All files" for the "Save as type" option and name it .nomedia (note the leading period). Copy this file into your Ringtone folder, reboot the handset and bingo... the folder is no longer seen by the music player.

Method 2:
Duplicate the OS audio folder structure on the SD card i.e. create an "audio" folder at the root level and within that create "ringtones". Place your .WAV file in this folder and the player will ignore it but the .WAV will now be included in the ringtone picklist along with the standard Android ringtones. The same technique can be used for "notifications" and "alarms".

This did not work.

Not working either. I ended up deleting it from the Music app, so it does not recognise it. I did make a backup somewhere else using the File Manager app on my phone. Now nothing seems to recognise my .wav file. There does not appear to be any place in any app where I can specify the actual file name and location to where my ring tone .wav file is located. I can't remember how I got this ring tone working in the first place. I think I used Windows Explorer while my phone is in Removable Drive mode while connected via USB.

If I go into File Manager and tap on the file, the Music app plays it. If I start the Music app it doesn't see it. When I go to the ring tone setup to select it, the file does not appear.

Hmm, maybe .WAV files aren't recognised as ringtones by the OS. I'll drop one into my own device and see what happens.

edit:
I copied the "Windows Startup.wav" to my /sdcard/audio/ringtones folder and, after a reboot, it showed up in the ringtone picklist alongside my other .MP3 and .OGG files. However it won't play, which suggests that .WAV files aren't fully supported.

I'm at a loss as to why the .nomedia file doesn't work.

I'm trying to remember how I got my .wav file working as a ring tone. I think I got it off one of those lyrics sites and it transferred over to my phone.

Anyway, my .wav file stopped working since I was moving a bunch of stuff around. I ended up having to convert it to an MP3 file and go the ring tone working again.

That .nomedia file I initially made with Quick Office on my phone. My Notepad app on my phone doesn't save files. Then I realised you were probably talking about Notepad on my PC. I'll give this another go later.

What I ended up doing is using Ringdroid app to convert the MP3 to a ring tone. I assigned it as a ring tone. Then I deleted the original MP3 file, so my music player doesn't see it.
