Help Music playing through speaker when headphones disconnected

I have an odd issue with my Note (N7000 running ICS).

When I disconnect my earphones and music is playing, the music stops -Great. However if I stop music manually & then disconnect my earphones music starts playing through the speaker without me doing anything else! This happens even if the phone is on standby - the phone does not 'wake up'.

This is not the end of the world, but can be a pain as I use my phone as a media player at work and gets me funny looks if I forget to start music before removing the earphones. I am using a good quality set of Sony earphones.

I have done a factory reset to see if this would help and tried several different music players all with no luck. This also happened with Gingerbread.

Any ideas?

If you look at the headphones that come with Samsung devices, they have four conductor wires ... left channel, right channel, ground and one to control pause. It's a simple toggle circuit, so when you press the button on the headphones it starts/stops play. When you pull the headsets out with the media player open you short the control contact making it think you pressed the button. So, if it's playing, it pauses. If it's paused, it starts playing. Since the headset is no longer plugged in, the sound comes through the speakers. It's a feature, not a bug.
