Help Music shows duplicate songs but physically there are no duplicates...

Won't selecting Clear Data do exactly that? Clear ALL data? I on'y want the duplicates gone, not all the songs I've ever collected.

this happens on my sony Xperia E as well, so it appears to be either an android problem or we've all got the same media player app thats causing this.

and no "clear data" will just clear the cache not wipe your files.

Thank you. This solution worked on an Asus TF700 Infinity Tab, android 4.2.1, running a Yamaha AV Controller App. I don't think the Yamaha App is the problem. I think the problem has to do with Google Play trying to sync my mp3s to their cloud then Yamaha thinks I have two of each song installed. I've disabled Google audio syncing but its come back. I've ripped all my CDs to high res mp3s and then I stream them digitally to a Yamaha RX-A830 receiver. Best sound ever until android duplicates all the entries and then every application plays each song twice in-a-row. Ive been living with this for a while waiting for google to fix their end then Asus must sending an update to my tablet. Not holding my breath. Too bad somebody broke it to begin with. Maybe Google's smart enough to figure it out and come up with a patch. At least now before playing my tunes I can delete media, and reboot, and it will work for a while. Maybe until the next Google Play update?

Thanks again.

Fixed the duplicates by doing this:

Goto Settings > Apps > Media Storage, select Clear Data, then Reboot.

Using AOKP, but it should work with the stock rom.
This worked, temporarily. But, when I play a song, it shows a duplicate again. Just that song.

I'm frustrated. I was using Google music. But I just want a good free music player that will play the songs physically on my device and allow me to make playlists for them. Google music makes you individually select and add each song. If you could fix this i would be so happy to have what i need. If not could you suggest a player that allows you to multi-select to make playlists? Then I can dump this along with the Google music.
