Help Music slows down Android OS?

Brand new here & brand new to smartphones. I have to tip my hat right off the bat, the "similar threads" feature here should be on every forum-based website! Unfortunately, the suggested threads don't match my problem.

I just got my LG Ally yesterday. I've been playing around with it, taking things in on an as-needed basis rather than trying to learn every little bit of it at once. So I decided today to try out the music player. I've got about 1,000 songs (between 2gb-3gb) on a 16gb card anyway, so I popped it in. Not only did it take a good while just to read all the songs (which I expected), but ever since then the OS has been noticeably slow & lagging.

Is this normal when there are that many songs? Is there a different "recommended" music player someone could direct me to that can handle the number of songs I have?

Any help is appreciated.

Ive got close to 6gbs of music on my phone and never had any issues like that. I would say its gotta be something else

Have you updated to the newest version of Android since you added all of your music? More than likely your Ally came with FROYO but I thought I'd ask.

It says its Android version 2.2.1...how do I go about checking for updates on this puppy?

[edit] Just went here http://www.ehow.com/how_6855334_update-android-os.html and followed the instructions, but it tells me I'm up to date. Does this mean I'm not able to update to 2.3 or 3.0?

2.3 (Gingerbred) and 3.0 (Honeycomb) are not, and most likely will not be, available for the Ally.

2.2.1 (Froyo) is the most up-to-date, so you're good there.

I'm not sure why your music player would slow anything down... I suggest replacing it with Music Mod. That's what I have, and I've never noticed any signs of the phone struggling.

When you say "slow" are referring to the sluggishness of the phone? If so that is nothing to be worried about, the Ally is sluggish.

It was running slow compared to how the phone was running before I put the music card in. But it seems to have cleared up now, so whatever it was seems to have passed.

I believe the OS maintains an internal media database to speed up browsing and accessing media files. The noticeable slowdown was likely due to your phone building that database from scratch for 1k+ songs.

I noticed the same issue, but if your music is less than 5GB, you can try Amazon's new Cloud Player service. That way your music is stored on their Cloud, and streams directly to your device(via Amazon mp3). I really like, no skipping or buffering(on 3G).
