Must be doing something wrong....

hi guys,

as some of you will know, i'm a noob android s2 owner, whom has managed to root his phone and put on a custom rom (checkrom).

However, i'm doing something wrong as no matter what theme i install from kitchen, the layout/style never changes and still looks the same as though its a stock rom.

FYI, After rooting and checkrom, i:-

1. download my chosen theme from kitchen app.
2. goto cwm and choose flash and install the .zip theme file.
3. s2 automatically reboots and begins installing.
4. after reboot checkrom still looks exactly the same as before.

Now i don't mind changing my rom/theme, so long as i can get a big dialeras i have massive fingers +good battery life....what do you recommend? how do i install it (step-by-step)? Is there a pre-customised rom?

Thanks!

You wouldn't be using the siyah kernel would you. There is a bug which stops things flashing via the kitchen. Boot into recovery and flash them manually and it should work.

I did this just last night. I went into kitchen, found the theme I wanted then clicked on Mark for Installation, then Menu-> Apply. Once it downloaded, it asked me if I wanted to install. I didn't have to use CWM to install them. I am using CheckROM also with Siyah...

Temporarily, you can just manually install the zip via CWM Recovery.

Long term so that you can install from the kitchen in the future you need to delete the clockworkmod folder on your EXTERNAL SD card and you will be good to go. Once deleted just try again from the kitchen.

It's also worth getting the Ultimate Kernel Cleaning Script and run this before you flash a kernel.

Out of interest, how do you download to install via cwm mode??

When I download something from kitchen app, i click mark for installation, then have to click apply. This automatically reboots phone and intalls it - I cant see a way to download and install seperately/later through cwm mode??

Have a look in your file...

/sdcard/download/CheckROM_REVO

Your downloads should be in there.

Probably the easiest thing for you would be to, using Root Explorer or File Manager, etc; move ot to the root of either your internal or external, sdcard and flash it using CWM Recovery.

I've had success installing stuff right out of the Kitchen but the last couple of times I've had to install via Recovery. Its no big deal, the zips are stored in the aforementioned folder, a couple of button presses and your done.

What I meant was i cant see way of just downloading - you 'mark for installation' then apply in app. 'Applying' auto reboots and installs.

I thought there would be way to download, then install later if req'd or, ideally, through cwm recovery??

Ok, i must be missing something. Just went back into app and when I find what I want to download, you have option to mark for installation. This puts little symbol 'marking' it, but doesn't download onto phone.
You then apply from menu, this downloads and auto reboot and installs - I can't find way in settings or anywhere where you can stop auto reboot/install or to 'just download' to sd for later???

JsR84 - how did you manage to install later after ur prob??

When you mark something for installation you press apply and then the zip starts to download. When downloading has finished you should get the option to instal or cancel. If you press cancel the zip should be saved on your phone under downloads, checkrom_revo
