Help Must have Apps

Yellow Snowman

Android Enthusiast
I'm coming from Blackberry to Android finally. Picked up 2 TBolts this morning and already like it.

My question is what are the must have apps and widgets for this phone?

VZ rep downloaded Super Task killer for me. I had like 30 apps opened in the background when he killed them all. Might help with battery life.

ya i'm thinking better SMS app might have to happen. i dont particualry like the google one. its ok but not great.

What about anti-virus or something to save battery?

do cell phones really need antivirus? i have not yet met someone who has had a virus on there cellphone.

No, Task Killers are a waste of time and actually eat up more battery.

Exactly.

No, they don't.

It's HTC's, not Google's. The messaging app on vanilla Android is different than what you're seeing on this phone.

I dunno, I just hate having all those tasks opened. Doesn't feel right to me....

They're not necessarily running, though. Android will keep bit of 'em in RAM so that if you happen to open them again soon, they'll open faster.

If you're super worried about running processes, you can check that in Application settings.

The tasks may be listed as open but in the Android environment they aren't actively chewing up memory.

Uninstall your task killer and run juice defender. It will greatly extend your battery life without the performance losses of a task killer, yes performance losses.
