Must have apps?

Apps I love include

OurGroceries - My husband has an Eris too, we each have a live copy of the lists (multiple stores) on our phones. If one of us picks something up, you cross it off the list and it is gone from the other phone.
aCar - good for keeping track of mileage, etc for multiple vehicles
eBuddy - IM tool for Facebook - it does seem to eat up the battery though so I don't leave it on, but I love the display
Google Sky - of course
Free Dictionary - sometimes ya gotta know the meaning of that word
Pandora - can't get through the day without it
Where's My Droid

I hope you love your Eris as much as I love mine! The apps really make the phone. IMHO.

Okay i just read in this month's PC World about their ten best android apps. The one I want is called AppManager which was renamed to AppMonster. I think it is like Astro File Manager. I would also like Swype but can't find it. Can someone help?

Also new to this. What is "Root"?

Here's a few more I don't think have been mentioned yet:

Gmail Notifier
SwiFTP FTP Server
Call Logs Backup & Restore
SMS Backup & Restore
DigiClock Widget

wrong and linked many times, it is not and never will be in the market place.

I'm tired so excuse the bluntness.

If it isn't in the market place how do I get it to my phone? It is probably very simple, but I haven't added anything that isn't in the Market Place so I have no real idea.

Thanks in advance.

easiest way is to go to a link via your phone. You will have to give phone permission to dl non-market apps (settings>manage apps). search for swype, i am sure there is more than one link for it in the forum and prob a link

It serves a different purpose than barcode scanner. Barcode scanner to me is just a way of getting to apps and urls quicker using the qr code. Shopsavy is more of a product price comparison app which searches for the best prices available for whatever product you are looking for.

+1 two totally different programs with two completely different uses

I have downloaded Swype for my phone, both on 1.5 and 2.1 OS. It is just about the most fantastic keyboard ever and I would absolutely pay should they decide to charge at some point.

As far as setting the phone to download non-market apps by going to MENU>SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>UNKNOWN SOURCES I have seen no ill effects. Granted, I only checked this to download Swype and then unchecked the box (so that only market apps can be installed again).

Many people on this forum have Swype installed and there have been no ill effects. Like I said, if you're worried, just uncheck the box again when you are done downloading. No sweat!
