Muve Music for Mercury now available via OTA update

Does anyone else who updated notice that their phone is faster cause mine defiantly is. I had tiny lags on certain effects before (using go launcher ex) and those are gone. It's smoother then ever before which is already saying much.

I did notice the phone being more responsive when applying the Muve update. Also certain games such as Mega Jump used to have a lot of stutters & pauses but after the muve update it was running much better.

I only switched to a custom rom (also very fast) due to the issues I started having with the muve update, but lesson learned you shouldn't update official firmware while rooted.

Did you try clearing the cache and data from the market? (manage applications)
yes did the same thing. Unrooted the rom and again cleared factory reset back up same thing. Luckily i had a back up from last month that is working fine.

Everytime I thought i had figured out my MMS issue after applying the Muve update the problem would randomly return, I finally gave in and installed the Revokster rom by oriax123 from cricketusers (found in the stock replacement rom thread), All I can say is Wow... My problems are gone and this rom gives the mercury a nice boost in overall speed.
this is the one i used. I agree it is better and smoother, just didnt like that the stock task manager was removed plus the old look from when GB first came out was bugging me.

After installing Revokster I installed the stock huawei unlock screen (available in same thread as revokster, called Potterunlock) and restored my Go Launcher EX + themes I had before so visually it's still the same for me, the stock huawei task manager is also available in .apk form if you ever need it.

Did anybody else besides mathesar have MMS problems after the update?

Just updated our 2nd Mercury here which was stock 2.3.5 but also rooted, it has the same MMS issues after applying Muve update.

I'm guessing this is due to being rooted, but we anticipated this might happen and plan on applying a custom rom if we can't figure out how to fix MMS. Everything else works fine.

Edit: trying to do all we can to figure out the mms issue after the update before giving up, ill post if i find a solution.

It's such a strange bug when everything else works fine, so far ive tried clearing all data / cache , pulled battery, restore messager defaults, messed with APN settings, compared all system settings to my phone (which works fine w/ sending mms with custom rom) tried installing another messaging app, no luck yet lol.. it seems to be a pretty stubborn issue.

on my phone disabling Wifi would allow MMS to send succesffully about 70% of the time (Which was never an issue before updating to muve of course) but on this 2nd phone it hasn't worked even once since updating, it just gets stuck at "Sending" and eventually turns into a red exclamation point / failed error.

Ok well doing a Factory Reset fixes the MMS issue if you're affected by it (found in Settings / Privacy / Factory Reset) Of course this pretty much wipes the phone (installed applications / Google info etc) the phone reboots with a fresh copy of the muve update, I just had to enter google login info to get my contact back etc. of course you'll have to resintall all of your apps (or restore from backup) The phone was still rooted after the factory reset.

Only negative effect I noticed is we didn't do a backup of anything and all of the apps I had installed to SD card also don't show up after factory reset, so I ended up moving all the pics etc. off the sd card and formatting it to regain the space still being used by the apps.

I like my phone as is but if this update makes it better I'm all in. So what's good and bad about it.

I would say go for it especially if you're phone is still on android 2.3.5, The update makes the phone quicker / more responsive we noticed the difference on both phones here.

Also if you're still on 2.3.5 the update fixes a microphone issue which improves the voice to text feature, before the update I could never use voice to text while driving it would only work in a dead silent room.

One other thing I noticed with the update, the headphone output is noticeably louder which is a good thing, When using my Sony MDR XB500 headphones I used to run it at max volume and it was still not all that loud vs. being connected to my PC but now it's pretty close and I have to keep the volume below max to save my ears.

I am also having problems sending mms. And it never happened until i updated. I also dont like the new key board. It doesnt auto correct like it used to. I definitely regret updating. Is there any way to fix this?

Got the update today not having any MMS issue like posted above (sent 3 MMS messages and all went through, although I have not received any so I cant speak to that part yet).

The issue(s) I am having is when I restart my phone I get this error pop:

! SORRY! The application SNS (process com.huawei.sns) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
[Force Close]

A quick G search brings nothing up. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also @mathesar: Did you gain the ability to take a screen shot by rooting your phone? I would really like to learn how to do this if some one wouldn't mind pointing me in that direction. Thank you again

**Edit: In running apps I see that the AutoTest process is running like stated above, any one else have this going?

Doing a factory reset fixed MMS for awhile but the problem returned again 2 days ago, I tried the "Data Fix" shown in this thread (scroll down page) and so far it's been working fine again.

If you are rooted, you can just download an app like Shoot Me or Screenshot It to do screenshots.

Welcome to the forum. Are you rooted? You could try the modded stock ROM as stated above. For the keyboard, there are lots of replacements in the market you could try. I just use Swype, so i'm not the best person to recommend one, but a lot of people seem to like Swiftkey X.

DO NOT INSTALL THE UPDATE!!! There is a 90% chance you'll never be able to send MMS while connected to Wifi ever again and Cricket is ignoring the issue and lying to their customers. See these posts...

MMS not working properly since the OTA upgrade for Huawei Mercury

http://androidforums.com/huawei-mercury/536257-error-98-after-recent-update-anyone-get.html

They're telling customers there's no issue with the update and it's an issue with their phone, or a tower outage, or something else and all they do in the store is a battery pull and *228 which only fixes the problem until you connect to Wifi again. Then you have to disable Wifi and manually reset your 3G connection in order to send MMS again. And they've got employees in the forums spreading misinformation about the safety of the update and pushing Muve. What it boils down to is they're not wanting to lose all the revenue coming in from people adding Muve since the update. And it has NOTHING to do with being rooted b/c my phone wasn't rooted, hadn't even installed any third party apps, it was pristine and working perfectly before the update. I think Cricket may have just lost me as a customer, and I've been with them with no problem for 12yrs... But I'm now carrying around a $250 defective phone and THEY broke it! Bah!

Yea we have 2 Mercury's here and although we didnt have the error 98 issue they both failed to send MMS after the update , it was worse with Wifi enabled but even when disabled MMS would only go through about 30% of the time, everytime I thought it was fixed the problem would return. Even the factory reset method and data fix I mentioned in previous post only fixed it temporarily.

We wiped and flashed both phones with a custom rom from cricketusers forum (Revokster, based on android 2.3.6) and both phones have been working great ever since.

90 percent ? Where did you get that figure? Is it scientific in anyway? With an issue this big, there would tend to be a surge of new members on the internet trying to figure this out, and I haven't seen a surge.

The fact is, an actual tiny amount of cell phone owners use internet forums to talk about their phones. The main reason a non phone enthusiast would get on a forum is because of a problem...so that makes the issue seem larger then it is.

If it was anywhere near 90 percent, I'm sure we would see a large uproar of people, from youtube, to other lines of communication complaining.

That might be true except that Cricket is doing an amazing job of lying and misdirection and the average joe Cricket user probably isn't as industrious as the few of us are... Most of the people affected by this are being told it's a tower issue in their area or they go in and have a reset done and when it comes back are told it's b/c of something they did to their phone such as rooting it... And your whole second paragraph is oxymoronic. If they haven't corrected this issue soon I'm sure you're going to start seeing a whole lot of Mercury owners flooding the internet.

I'm pretty sure that MMS never sends over wifi, but the ROM knows to switch to 3G to send it. It sounds like the problem with this ROM is it gets confused when connected to wifi, that's why you have to turn off the wifi and reset the 3G by turning it off and on. People who never use wifi probably won't have this problem, so they won't complain about it. This is just speculation on my part, I could be way off base.

With our phones even with Wifi disabled MMS wouldnt work a lot of the times, with Wifi enabled the 3G icon would appear for a few seconds or so when sending MMS but still got stuck at "Sending..." it didn't matter if I used the stock messaging app or another one from the market.

MMS does not use Wifi, as you said the phone switches to 3G to send the MMS... But the update breaks the phone's ability to do that. My phone will send over 3G as long as I don't connect to Wifi. If I do I lose the ability, then I have to disable the Wifi and the 3G and then turn the 3G back on and THEN I can send a message again. It's ridiculous, and I spoke to a friend of mine at a Cricket retailer today and he said more and more Mercurys are coming back to the stores with this problem. One guy came in and bought a Mercury and brought it back the next day only to have the 2nd phone do the exact same thing as soon as he applied the Muve Music Update, and the sad part is there technically wasn't anything wrong with either of the phones!!! Not physically, anyway. And the Retailers don't know what's going on so their sending people to the corporate stores where they're being lied to and placated while Cricket is HOPEFULLY working on a fix.

Well, I gave up and rooted/flashed my phone to Oriax123's optimized 2.3.6 rom (thanks Mathesar) and the phone is working fine now. Ridiculous that I had to do that to a brand new $250 phone I've owned for less than two months. I'm going into the store tomorrow to rub the printouts I have of the 3 threads I've found about this issue in their faces... I'll be leaving Cricket by the end of the year and going with a different carrier... But I'll be staying Android!

The thing that reminded me about that was it popped into my head that one of the early CM7 builds for the Ascend wouldn't send mms without manually turning off the wifi first, and some guy would come on the forum everyday and bitch about it and ask if it was fixed yet lol. The sad thing is it should be easy to fix for a dev who knows what they're doing. Cricket should be able to just send out a small patch.

One would think so... But here it is May 2nd and the Muve Music Firmware Update was released on April 1'st... Hmmm... April Fool's day... How fitting... So it's been a month now, at least 2wks since they probably realized they had a problem, and nada. I think the Mercury is set to check for updates every 15days by default, so that's another factor. I updated mine on April 14th when the phone autochecked for an update. And as of last night no new updates had been released...
