Help My "accounts sync" app shortcut vanished

bs872

Newbie
Hey folks,

I've spent a better part of this morning trying to locate my "accounts sync" app shortcut after I went into manage applications and deleted pretty much all the data. Probably not the best idea.

Anyway, I can't find the app shortcut to add to my homescreen. I had it on there, removed it and now I can't find it anywhere. My phone is not rooted.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Welcome to AF!
Was that "accounts sync" an app that you have downloaded before, listed under the downloaded tab in "manage applications" or was it under the "All" tab.
When you long press on the home screen to add a shortcut, it is not listed under apps?

Thanks!

It was a factory app listed in "add to home" screen that includes, widgets, app, shortcut and folder. When I long press the home screen, I'm prompted to add shortcuts, etc. and that particular shortcut is now among the missing.

you're very welcome....
So all is good yes?

It is, yes. However, it's no longer listed under app shortcuts. Odd, I know.
I see, would it help if you went to that app again under managage applications and select "clear defaults"?
You said you cleared cache and data from there already correct?

Edit: also, when you go to menu/settings/accounts & sync, are you currently set up for sync? As in, does your gmail account say "Sync is on" ?

I just went there and everything is still cleared, reading 0.00B.

I'm going to pull the battery and see what happens.

Yup. Everything in there is set up for sync.

I liked having the shortcut on my home screen because I could sync whenever I wanted, you know?

Gotcha, thing is, I dont recall ever having that app as an available shortcut. Never looked for it, so I may be wrong.
One thing is do know of is, you may have a power control widget with an option to incorporate the "shortcut" to that app. Perhaps look into adding widget

When I deleted all the stuff from my homescreen and started adding shortcuts and widgets back to it, I had both a widget and a shortcut app on my screen at the same time. Had I known I would be going through all of this, I would have been a little more hesitant to just remove them both.

I wouldn't know the first thing about adding a widget that's not already there. HA!

hmmm, so the app is not available as a widget either?
We are talking about this app correct? 2nd one listed on my screen.

I'm using the stock messaging app, yes.

It reads: "unable to send message after multiple attempts" or something to that effect. I'll download that other messaging app. Thanks!

GoSmsPro is pretty cool. Thanks for the tip!

As there any way to disable or uninstall the stock messaging app? I've looked around here and other places and it seems there's a couple different answers.

Disable stock messaging app? Dont think so without root privileges...so just disable all stock messaging notifications but leave the "auto retrieve mms" box checked. And in GoSms, just set up the notification settings to your liking.
In GoSms, there is an option under "receive settings" to check a box by "Disable other message notification".
