Root My battery life seems poor

quantim0

Newbie
So I just switched from a rooted Evo to a Charge. I rooted it on day one and have had what I consider to be poor battery life. With everything off except mobile data, I'm losing about 4% per hour just idling. My Evo would lose 1% an hour or less when running ASOP roms an little more with sense roms.

I took my phone off the charger around 9 this morning. I've sent 50 texts, maybe a few more. My battery is as 52% right now. Maybe I expected too much, but I didn't get a TB because of the crappy battery life.

Right now I'm running Gummycharged 1.8.1 with the standard kernel that it came with. I don't have 4g here so I have that auto search turned off as well.

I think it sounds par for the course honestly. The screen and 4G take up a lot of battery life. Bottom line, none of these are gonna win battery efficiency awards anytime soon. Buy a spare battery like I did and keep it charged when you can.

So to win a battery effiency award, switch to the Humble ROM. I can get 24-30 hours of moderate use in 3g. Don't have 4g in my area, so the radio is off.

+1 for Humble ROM, like the developer says, I loose 1 - 1.5% batt. an hour on idle screen off.

I just applied Gummy last night and as much as I LOVE how my phone is running right now the battery life is pretty awful.

My g/f wakes up exactly 1 hour before me. I reach over and remove my phone from the charger to turn off the alarm. One hour later I pick up the phone again to turn off my alarm and I'm at 92% battery. Screen off the entire time.

Now I just applied Gummy last night and maybe I need to be a bit more diligent on what apps are running - or maybe this is a known problem and a fix is on the way but as of right now I feel Gummy is a pretty strong strain on battery.

All that said, my phone is set with the exact same settings and apps as before I applied Gummy.

All that said x2, I love the way my phone operates enough to live with it like this for now.

You'll need to calibrate the battery. There is a battery calibration app that is free, or you can do it through CWM.

Without a battery calibration, the phone will show poor battery life. However, for my GummyCharged had poor battery life compared to Humble.

Something happened since my last charge. Been getting better battery life now. Probab about 4-5% per hour based on average use.

Could I bet for an explination on how to calibrate batt life through CWM?

That was normal usage when I was running Gummy. To me that is not acceptable.

So I switched to Humble and all my battery woes have been cured. I'm looking at a full 36 hours on a full charge.

  1. Charge to 100%
  2. Reboot into CWM (still plugged in)
  3. Go to Advanced
  4. Select "Wipe Battery Stats"
  5. Select "Go Back"
  6. Unplug phone
  7. Reboot phone
  8. Use phone until it turns itself off
  9. Completely charge the phone while off
  10. Unplug phone
  11. Power on and use/charge normally from this point

How do you get to advanced?
Sorry if its a dumb question, just got my phone.
thanks

If your phone is rooted you access CWM by holding VOL+ and HOME while powering on your phone. Once booted you can select ADVANCED from the CWM menu (nav with VOL+/- and select with POWER).

I performed this calibration the other day on my Charge. I didn't notice a great change on that first full run-down, but after a full recharge it's been pretty good. Granted, I haven't been using it much the last two days, but I'm currently at 46% and unplugged for 38 hours. Pretty good for idle with data or wifi on.

Rooted stock rom.

Have the GummyCharged rom here as well and my battery life is pretty awful. It went down 2% just to get to this page and type this post!

I have the CWM of humble on my sd. Do I need to do anything special to flash it, like remove the voodoo lagfix or flash a kernel first? I know I'll need to factory reset it through CWM.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: got Humble Rom flashed from CWM. I just bootes into CWM, did a factory reset, and cleared cached data. Then I installed Humble from .zip on the sd card. Humble is fired up and ready. So far, battery life is better already, although time will tell and I need to do a battery calibration.

I flashed the humble rom yesterday. The phone didn't last even a full day even though it was very light use. One phone call, a little weather channel use and some text messages. Oh, and I did have sports tap running for a baseball score. My TB lasted a business day. Don't know what to change to?

Been running Humble since Tuesday. Yesterday, unplugged the phone at 6:30am, used it moderately to heavily throughout the day, still had 29% at 10pm when I put 'er back on the charger. Stock rom would have died around 2-4pm with that use and Gummy would have died by noon probably. Humble has definitely boosted my battery life big time!

There's probably an app on your phone that's sucking up the juice. Also look into Screen Filter. It dims your display to make it easier on your eyes indoors but also saves battery life on OLED (or AMOLED in our case) displays. Also make sure you do not have any task killers installed. Download Titanium Backup and freeze apps you don't use, etc, etc, etc. All of that adds up to a faster phone with better battery life.

Also, use the built in Humble LTE Switch to turn off 4G when you don't need it. 4G drinks the juice.

I'm using the GummyCharged GBE 1.9RC2.3 ROM. The other day, on moderate use (some Pandora, emails, some web browsing, 30 minute TweetDeck updates, and a few news reads from my RSS feed), I had to plug it in after 23 hours and 49 minutes. Having used Humble before, the newest Gingerbread GummyCharged is better on battery in my experience.

Humble rom is basically Gummy with a few extras. It will not have any better battery life since the framwork was all taken from Gummy. In fact put on both roms and run them for a while, check the runnning services in the toolbox. Gummy will have fewer apps running than Humble. You have to calibarate your phone and make sure it is fully charged before you make any comparisons. For me Gummys Rom 191 and the imoseyon 13.3 kernel gives me the best battery life. I recalibrated the battery yesterday and I am at 64% after 17 hours. 61% display, 12% standby, 8% voice and the rest...not to bad if you ask me. Mostly 4g area.

Ive since ungraded to Gummy 2.0 with IMoseyON 13.6 and EP1Q radio, still at 1-2% per hour.

I usually go 10-12 hours, my screen time is usually around 80% only because I do a ton of texts, games, and internet through out the day.
