My Connect arriving today...need advice

I'm upgrading from my Ascend to the Connect, it's being delivered today and I have a few questions.

Do I need to go into a Metro store to transfer my phone number/service from my Ascend to the Connect?

Should I do the LG update that I've seen folks talking about on the forum, is it necessary? Will it prevent me from rooting?

no u dnt need to goto the metro store dial *228
yes update it improves overheating and battery life and u can still root

I also recently upgraded from an ascend to a connect my advice, root it, mod it, OC it pretty much as soon as u got it activated. Broken out mod is showing some pretty ridiculous antutu numbers.
