My Desire has Siri, doesn't it????

Fiddling round with my Desire this afternoon and discovered Voice Search. Brilliant, I thought, watched the tutorial and gave it a go - nothing. It won't call my phone contacts, won't send text messages, just keeps going to Google search. Now, I will need a step-by-step guide on how to set this up and I presume it has something to do with Gmail (?) so please feel free to enlighten me on this pre-Siri gizmo.
 
yeah its amazing that google has had this for years yet iphone can just take it like its their pioneered software
they even stole the icon

voice text is good too, i managed to write a complete text to someone by speaking

its a gimmick though and real world use makes it redundant

not wishing to turn this into any kind of Apple thread but that's the beauty of Apple marketing, taking current technology. "re-inventing" it and opening it up to the masses.
 
Hey please change the topic of this thread .. i know what desire is capable of I dnt want to have any iCrap...:P

PS.. its not a crap its a beautiful product I shud hv tried it out.. i am using iris on HTC desire
have any of used it?

like i said, this is not an Apple thread, it's a function/feature thread which highlights the similarities between OS's.

p.s. your "iCrap" comments are not really welcome, even if they do come with a :p
 
I was never able to get Google Voice Search to work very well for me. Vlingo, on the other hand, seems to work quite well. Well, it impressed my granddaughter when I was able to accurately dictate a text message to her without touching the phone!

agreed, im not wanting a i war. i respect it as a product

just its funny how it works yet they are suing htc, google, samsung for patent infringement lolbeans
 
It's not really like Siri although it can search for stuff using your voice after several attempts and can write text down but struggles with accents.... More of a gimmick than of any use I find

Siri can apparently do more advance stuff like "Remind me it's dads birthday on the 21st" and will set a reminder in your phone. Not tried it myself but I'm sure someone who will spend
