It amazes me to see how many people know so little about overclocking and what people do with things that they pay for. If I bought a AMD x2 and unlock it to an x4 and OC it WTF do I care if it makes someone else mad. I bought it and I'll dip it in salsa to cool it if I want.
Same goes for the Droid. Why cant the mods just delete all of the troll/flamer posts in this tread. Props to everyone who is OCing.
Might be interested in trying this. I get some serious lag when I'm running Navigation along w/ several other apps.
Is there a way to set it up so that the CPU speed only steps up when the phone has power plugged in?
Wow. That's pretty funny!
If you are ever seeing "visible issues" occur from overclocking, I've got news for you: You have already damaged your hardware. The real question at that point is, "How badly have I damaged my hardware?"
When you are seeing "visible issues", you are seeing the results of logic gates/transistors/silicon operating improperly due to signals operating the wrong way (probably due to over-saturation, ground loops, or other signal anomalies). You have sent electrons (or holes?) to areas they weren't intended to go.
So, since you have operated at least one transistor outside of it's maximum operating range, you have weakened it - and possibly other hardware. You may not see the results immediately, or maybe you will. The first time you see "visible issues" may also be the last time your PC will properly boot.
You may also have just weakened the circuitry a minor amount, so that a PC that would have lasted 3 years without any problem may now only last 2 years. You won't see the effect for a long time after you experimented with overclocking. Just because you don't see immediate death from overclocking doesn't mean that the circuitry hasn't been damaged.
OK, as an electrical engineer i have to address this statement lest someone believe it is true because it uses some electrical engineering terms.
just because you see errors, it does NOT mean you have already damaged the hardware. sure, if you have surpassed voltage limits on devices you may permanently damage them, but no one has yet increased the voltage supply during OC, so there is no increased chance of failure due to over voltage.
visible glitches can be caused by countless things, most of which are fairly benign, such as data in a pipeline stage getting corrupted because of timing violations.
this is not meant to say that OCing is totally safe. there are the heat risks that could not only affect the CPU, but other surrounding circuitry. also, you are guaranteed to reduce the lifespan of your phone by overclocking if for no other reason than increased electromigration (this is where the tiny wires on-chip change shape over time because of the flow of electrons). chances are, the lifespan is very long, so reducing it isn't a huge deal.
anyway, sorry to totally nerd out there, but it was irritating to see an incorrect argument made using some appropriate terminology.

I feel another thread coming on!

Now I'm seriously contemplating flashing the 1GHz kernel. Damn you tasmanian_droid!!!

Just wanted to thank Messenger13 for the quick help..VERY much appreciated

Can someone who has overclocked please post a video showing us the main areas of speed increase?
what does battery life look like after this?
So for the droid, how do you overclock? What program do you use? How does it work? (Increasing 'fsb' or a multiplier) I saw someone saying that it doesn't touch the voltage and if that's the case then it wouldn't increase temps by more then a minimal amount, and about the stability as long as you don't go too high you should be able to do a nandroid restore and be back to normal right?

And, whats with all this 'can't say Alldroid.org' stuff? That site is great. ALL of the real, useful, practical mods/roms have come from there, so why can't we speak the damn name of the site? I don't work for them or anything by the way, so don't go deleting this post or banning me- I'm just shocked that people seem so banded together by forums, like they're warring gangs or something lol

Screw all y'all naysayers ... I'm running at a grand!wOOt!

good job!!!Nice flaming. It's just too bad you can't read well enough to have seen the other posts here. I'd recommend you do that, but you obviously didn't want to, so I would say you probably just shouldn't post in this thread.
And as for your guarantee... when do I get my money back? I've noticed a severe increase in my performance on everything from menus to opening apps, all the way down to how quickly I can get into and out of my apps (including dialer).
What's next? You going to call someone stupid for putting a case on their phone?![]()

Oh Great One, please enlighten me as to what I missed in the previous posts.
And please don't pretend you can tell "severe increase in performance" on a dinky smartphone processor. Thats complete and utter BS and you know it. You are no different than those guys who claim they can detect an increase in HP using a butt-dyno when installing some POS aftermarket intake on their vehicle.
The only intelligent thing you said in this thread was about comparing PC and smartphone processors being apples to oranges.
If it makes you feel better about yourself to make erroneous claims about insignificant and undetectable-via-normal-usage performance increases, then by all means, go ahead. The rest of us will just sit back and laugh at you.
Its called the placebo effect - look it up.
