So, those of us that upgraded to Windows 7 are having a problem with syncing our mobiles to our computers. I have tried the online 'solution' three times to no avail so I thought I would email HTC.
My email said this
Hi,
I cannot sync the HTC hero to my PC running windows 7, I have followed all the instructions and still no luck.
Short but to the point. I received a very quick reply saying this
Thank you for your enquiry
'I cannot sync the HTC hero to my PC running windows 7, I have followed all the instructions and still no luck'
Please note that HTC sync doesn't work in Windows 7.
Software Requirements - Supported Operating Systems (PC)
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
Windows XP Professional Edition Service Pack 2
Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise Edition
Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic Edition
I suggest to wait for an update to the HTC sync program.
If these steps have not helped, please let me know by using this link: HTC ? Support ? Customer Service ? Support via Hotline whereby I will be happy to check again for you.
If these steps have not helped? What I have to install all those OS's first ;-). So, my reply is as follows
Why does the HTC Hero not work with Windows 7? Is this due to the drivers? If so why have these not been released and as I purchased my phone in december and recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7, I am now unable to use it to sync my data to my computer and as such am not able to return the phone for a refund.
This really is not satisfactory that a large company is able, in 2010, to allow this to happen. When will there be a fix available for windows 7?
And again I got a quick reply
Thank you for your enquiry
The HTC sync for W7 has been released:
HTC - Support - HTC Magic - Software Download
HTC Sync upgrade (V2.0.18) for Magic, Hero & Tattoo
Please uninstall any earlier versions of HTC Sync and HTC Driver form the PC and then install 2.0.18
I have tested this on 7 and it worked fine.
if you get Unable to detect phone in HTC Sync on Windows 7
then please follow the instructions:
Unable to detect phone in HTC Sync on Windows 7
NOTE: this is only compatible with HTC Sync version 2.0.18 or later. if the customer has an earlier version, they MUST update.
Sometimes, Once you have installed HTC Sync on a Windows 7 PC, you will find that the phone is not found by the sync software. This is often caused by the wrong driver being assigned to the hardware. If a version earlier to 2.0.18 was installed, then Windows 7 will have downloaded a version of the ADB driver from the internet that is incompatible with the HTC Sync software.
If this is the case, then the phone will appear in device manager as ADB, as shown below.
Sometimes it will appear as HTC Dream Composite ADB Interface
If the device appears as either of these, make sure that HTC Sync 2.0.18 or later is installed (see the installation guide by clicking here). Then, once the installation has completed, right click and select Update Driver in device manager.
Select to Browse my computer for driver software
Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Select ADB Interface from the list
Select My HTC
The driver will install and likely prompt you to reboot the PC.
Click Yes to reboot the PC
When the PC has rebooted, the correct drivers should be installed and HTC Sync should now work, and the device will appear in device manager as My HTC.
If these steps have not helped, please let me know by using this link: HTC ? Support ? Customer Service ? Support via Hotline whereby I will be happy to check again for you.
Best regards
Great, so cheat and copy and paste info on the HTC website and hope that will appease the masses. I would point out that it started off with 'Dear *my surname*' rather than my christian name. This means its been dealt with by an offshore team in India at a guess.
My 3rd reply
I can see that this might take a while to sort out.
1st you say Windows 7 will not work with HTC sync and now you give me a copied and pasted solution that can be found on the HTC website.
2nd You have not answered any questions I have asked in my second email. Please could you do so?
3rd As a tip I would probably not start off with 'Dear *surname*' as that is my surname and not my first name and is informal.
4th The instructions you gave didnt work either, I have tried this twice now.
Anyone had problems in the past with them?
