My Evo Review

I probably use 20-25 religiously on a daily basis. The rest I use when I feel like it. I have a 16gig iPhone 3G, and have 307 apps with 307mb left (probably could get like 300 Android apps with that, lol). I also have 1193 songs, and 112 photos.

I'm really anal retentive/OCD and I can't stand having a bunch of stuff on my computer/Pre/what have you so I usually download an app on my Pre when I need it and if it's not something I use regularly, I delete it.

Yeah, there's probably apps on there that I forgot about, lol. I can delete them from iTunes, but I've been rather lazy.

That would be cool if correct, but EVO only has 360mb of free storage for apps (out of the box). 1gb rom minus format space, OS and stock apps should be about 550mb of free storage, but out of the box, EVO only has 360mb of free space for apps.

360MB of free storage? Geez, what a freaking joke. What the heck is Google doing? They need to fix this right away. My interest in the EVO just took a nose dive.

Quick question for the OP:

Have you noticed the light "leakage" towards the bottom buttons that a review mentioned? Sorry, can't remember which site did the review (I've read just about all of them).

Thank you for the review and all the questions you've answered for us!

If you root your EvO, you can add the feature to install apps to your SD card. When Froyo is released, that feature will be standard.

I think it was the Engadget or Gizmodo review your referring to...
Also the OP in this thread said he hasn't noticed any leakage: http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/84875-my-evo-thoughts-review.html

I have played with the Incredible and it does have a great screen. The EVO screen is so massive and beautiful you will not notice anything else. It is huge and beautiful, every time I cut the phone on I am surprised by it's size.

Thanks for the reply Shadrap. Just so I'm clear in understanding, the screen isn't just big, its also very vibrant colors, dark blacks, etc right? I'm basicly hoping that the phone screen has a lot going for it other then how big it is :) I never saw a working version of it's WinMo predecessor.

I currently have an iPhone 3G (not S) and I've always felt like the screen had washed out blacks and colors. Hoping the EVO is better.

Thanks again!

You realize that each app is only a couple megabytes right? Not to mention the SD card...

If you have more then 360MB in apps you probably have bigger issues (battery life, performance, etc).

I do not see any leakage unless I tilt the phone sharply and look straight into the crack.

A couple of megs? No wonder Android apps aren't as good as the iPhone's. I have a few games on my iPod Touch that are almost 100mb each.

I have about 1.2GB of apps on my ipod touch. How is Android supposed to churn out better apps if the developers are restricted by space? Froyo is supposed to fix this hopefully.

does the camera lens protrude from the metal ring, slightly recessed or flush. My biggest fear is i will set the phone done face up and end up scratching the camera lens.

Yes, it is flush and it is something I worry about until I get a case.

To me, the screen is great and beautiful. Its a surprise every time I turn it on. Previous phones, Palm Pre, iPhone 3GS, HTC HERO. This is the best screen I have seen. I have also viewed it against the incredible, great phone, but Size matters, trust me.

The post further down is correct. If viewing the phone at an angle you do see light leakage. It is at two specific points and it seems to be the way it was built. It does not hinder the performance of the phone in any way.

So if I understand you correctly, the stock apps can be uninstalled?

Also, just a general question here as I am a Droid virgin, does installing & uninstalling tons of apps leave artifacts in the OS ala Windows registry?

No, the stock apps can not be uninstalled without root. I just subtracted the size of the apps I installed. I do not know if artifacts are left or not.

I honestly wasn't thinking of games when I wrote that, but you do bring up a very good point. A couple of decent 3D games would likely fill up space fast.

Is it confirmed that we only have like 300mb on board?

Great review man, really appreciate it. Havent made your way to Charlotte recently have you? Id love to know what kind of speeds the EVO picks up here.
