Ill be cross posting this to different forums because its pretty quiet here but this is my experience with the triumph.

Is the triumph worth the money?
It boiled down to these reasons for me: coming from Virgintercept i got tired of erasing apps that i really liked and having to pick and choose because of space or it affecting the speed of the phone, i couldnt safely change the splash.img, the screen was hard to browse as its small. the phone actually was easy to root, very customizable, very easy to unbrick and would execute whatever i needed to do for the most part. I have no experience with the Optimus but it might be a good alternative if you dont have time to really work with it.



TIP:. Get the "download all files apk" or "download crutch apk" and you can for the most part never need your computer to download ever again. The computer is so slow, the phone is much faster. Download all files will let you download even computer programs to your phone. I used my triumph to download VLC Player (supports multiple codecs) which is an exe file and then simply ran and installed to my desktop. I also have windows suite on my phone so i can carry my resume with me wherever i go. :)

IMPORTANT: MMS/SMS Miui and CM7

Use the textfree apk from the market. I can confirm sms should work but my mom hasnt confirmed from her end MMS yet.Go SMS didnt work for me even with APN manual configuration. Use their number (textfree) and their network. Also sometimes data issues are temporary and due to weather conditions etc. I think that might be what makes the difference. Dont do this right off though, you may not need to, both roms are phenominal CM7 is mindblowing. (thanks tickerguy!) :)

How to almost always prevent permabrick?
Make different backups on different types of media and have different ways of implementing/using it (different sd cards in case one corrupts, different usb etc)

Cant get adb to be recognized by windows? You reset, youve wiped, you have downloaded drivers, youve checked the paths?
Download "Motohelper" after countless googling and disappointments im shocked it worked for me, it "may" work for you too.

Having several problems with phone?
You have to follow the developers instructions perfectly...otherwise you may have a fickle phone.

Is the triumph brickable?
Im sure there is a way. But it would take a genious like those here to find it. And sense no one w,ould do that ima go with NO. I change splash screens according to my mood, customized by me, thanks to the maker of splash creator. Also have been hard pressed to run into a single problem with this phone. the screen does flicker sometimes.

Miui review in short (my son just woke up :)
Awesome, if you download GoLauncher it will give you an app drawer.

Note; brandon found a very intelligent way to use the phones root already in the phone. If you do this and upgrade to gingerbread you may lose root and gingerbreak didnt work for me in miui. Root stuck with gingerbreak method. I really favor brandons way though because Id like to erase superuser sometimes. But his method DID work for me.

CM7: I have almost no knowledge of the bugs Tickerguy notes. I even heard music playback doesnt work. Not only does music playback work but I also have a sound booster apk that is giving my hip hop and rock music more bass. Sweeet! And I was just playing with CM7 and now i have no intention of changing my rom. Miui is fast and stable...CM7 is smoking blazing fast even pre overclock same kernel. CM7 is butter smooth im almost in disbelief of all the bug listings. im sure some are there like any rom...but its no more than stock rom (as someone else pointed out). Tickerguys CM7 is mindblowing. My contacts didnt sync...but thats not enough reason for me to switch. Ill just add them manually when I have the time. ;D

Sucks, i think ive left out a lot but cant recall but if i do will post. It will help someone im sure.

seems like your using an old rom or something

1. mms and sms works fine in cm7. no need for an alternate app. also works in MIUI.

2. idk what bugs your talking about but cm7 only has HDMI not working and wifi/bluetooth on at the same time drains battery fast.
 
One thing... If you think its pretty quite here... Well this is the most active forum for the MT, xda isn't very active at all, idk about other forums...

The bugs your talking about sound like way back when cm7 was barely working...

You don't need download all, and the only reason you would need to download .apk is if your pirating them or the very few that you can get legitly from xda and such...

I could easily brick the phone using qpst... do I want to? no I don't want to wast $300... just saying :p
 
I really am enjoying tickers version. And the Kmart is no such luck but the contacts didn't auyomatcally since when I plugged on my Google acct like in other roms. I'm trying to decide why change it if its great? What is deep sleep and why do I need it? I either have my phone on or off and I have it set to never lock itself unless I do it...is that what that is? And why is Skype and oovoo not performing for me? Should I abandon my attempts to utilize those apps or continue to search or should I be waiting for a si:)milar alternative developer:-)s on the forums here? Neither of those apps reform excellently but Google talk does perform flawlessly

"Perform flawlessly" unlike my phone typing. Its comprehendable though lol

My mom confirmed she indeed got the Kmart also using text free....no apn adjustments needed...although that didn't work for me anyway. Btw...I love cm7 rom and if it were for these brilliant minds on this board my phone would be using only a fraction of its true potential
 
I don't see a reason to dl all your things to a phone. Especially if you have to transfer them back onto the computer if you wanted to use/install them (we're not all running Window$ also)
GTalk and Skype work fine on my phone. As it's already been stated, it sounds like you're using an older version of CM7 which didn't have the bugs out.
And what in the world is a "KMart"? Are you referring to the store, some kind of system issue or otherwise?
SMS and MMS work, music works, as already stated. Only thing that doesn't is HDMI out. Yet. (I still dream....)
 
What does HDMI out do? Isn't that for display purposes? I don't see a need for that feature. when its more efficient to use a flash...cloud service or email message photos. Don't get me wrong the triumph has many great features but most people move media wirelessly. I take tons of family photos and I'd just email them or put them on flash and plug it in yo my TV but who'd. do that often? Kmart is a typo. :-)
 
Rather than HDMI Google talks display is somewhat small. Oovoo display is pretty good. But that may have nothing to for with this. But according to system requirements they should work on the triumph
 
Yes, did you buy a package? I figured it didn't work because I didn't pay. The video was grainy and the voice was horrible. Ill mostly use it so my son can Skype with his grandma so he will get bored pretty quick if he can't hear anything. I only tried Skype with miui. Might work with cm7.

OK. Thank you for clarifying.
Personally I would like to see HDMI support but I understand that without the necessary drivers that's not going to happen.
Also the assumption that "most people move media wirelessly" isn't terribly accurate. There's certainly plenty of people who move media physically still, and will continue to do so (remember-there are still people who argue the quality of records. There's always going to be a minority. Eventually people will start to utilize cloud sharing and uploading wirelessly more. For now, it's relevant and certainly occurring more and more, but "most people" still aren't doing it.
Since everything's on my computers anyway cloud services are nice (hence why everything is on all my computers-they're synced), but I'd prefer not to stream every film (its also why I have several external HDs for my desktop, so I can store a lot of things), since films are large size files, would take a while to stream if stored in the cloud, and would require me to pay a reasonable amount for the storage I desire.
