My homemade docking station

Of course - monoprice.com has great pricing on these cables - only about $1.50 for a six foot length!

What is the part number of these cables? I find mini usb but they are not the connector like my Moto Droid.

In reading the manual for the droid it does state mini usb but the plug is different.
Any help would be great.
Nice dock. I'm going the wood route and will post what I end up with.
Thanks

I buy mine from monoprice.com

The part # there for a 6' cable is: USB-AB(M5)F-MM-06 The SKU is #5458
They are about $1.60 each. I buy three at a time to save shipping - no more to ship 3 than one. By the way - they are NOT mini, they are "micro" usb (on the phone end). The computer/charger end is USB A or B. ;) cuskit

I ordered the cables and have the wood cut (free scrap maple). I'm going to wait for the cables to fit the hole I need for it to be epoxied in place.
Thanks for the help.

BTW Shootr won't the magnets effect the phone in some way?

You guys inspired me to make one of my own and here's my attempt to make one based on the two picture frame style.

When I went to my local Dollar General to get a couple of the clear frames I stumbled upon another idea. I bought one of the heavier black metal versions of the photo frame as well as one of the clear plastic ones. After I got home I realized that all I had to do was cut a couple of notches where the plastic frame bends and it would slide right into the grooves in the metal frame after the glass was removed. I bought some glue thinking I would need it, but I think I like it as is. I drilled a hole for the cord and I was done.

Pros:

-Significantly heavier than two plastic frames. I really like how stout it feels.
-The black finish matches the phone and actually kinda looks factory made.
-I like the idea that others had of putting an actual photo in the plastic frame to use as a wallpaper. You can still do that. I'm imaging putting some sort of beach/ocean scene behind mine.
-The metal frame has a small hole in it so that you could, in theory, hang it from walls, etc.
-You can use if with any case that you could imagine.
-Total time spent on construction: about 5 minutes.
-Total cost: 3 bucks and change.

Cons:
-As is, I don't have the magnet feature, but I suppose with enough effort it could somehow be accomplished. I'm fine using DockRunner.
-That's really it. Worse case, if I decide I don't like it I can still use the frames for some pictures.

Awesome design. I might do this myself. I am too cheap to get the OEM dock and I have a case on it that I don't want to take off all the time.

If you haven't seen it, there is an app called DockRunner for the Droid only that will turn on the docking screen without the need for magnets. Plus it is Free.

I love my EZStand for home nightstand use but I needed something better for work. I bought one of the Ped3 Universal stands and stuck a magnet on the front for easy media dock mode. My favorite part was the slit in the base to put the charging wire through. Very very sturdy steel stand. Very happy with it.
