Help MY HTC hero internet wont work.

well ive had this htc hero for a while and my internet wont ever work. i got to the browser and it says check you internet connections or whatever. i know im suppose to hav internet ive been trying to fix it for a long time..ever since my internet hasnt worked my phone messages are slow to delete and my phone cant download picture messages my friends send me.

I assume this is with the handset connected to the mobile network rather than wifi, yes?

What network are you on?
What is the build number shown in Settings/About phone?
