Help My HTC Insprie wont exceed 95 percent charge when charging. Why?

I just bought this thing today and I went to plug it in to give it a good full charge. However, the charge wont exceed 95 percent complete. Its been on 95 for like 15-20 minutes. Does anyone know why this is happening? Is this a phone issue or a battery issue? Do I just need to buy a new battery? is this normal? How can I fix it?

Hi, as with any new battery, you need to let it set and cycle a few times before you'll see full capacity potential. The max voltage for the lithium ion batteries is 4.2 volts. Its probably only reaching 4.1 volts and stopping because it hasn't been broken in yet.

When the phone indicates its fully charged, unplug it and use it normally. After a few charge/discharge cycle you'll see the battery reach 100%. Also, you can unplug the phone for about 30 minutes to let the battery chemical settle after reaching 95%, then plug it back in and let it top off to 100%.

My Samsung Captivate did the same thing, as did my Inspire 4G. They both reach 100% charge now. Our work's Motorola radios using Lithium Ion batteries also do the same thing. The smart charger reads the battery info when plugged in. Brand new batteries, I've noticed, rarely reach 100% on first try. After 1 or 2 full discharge cycle, they reach 100%.

If after a few charge/discharge cycle and you don't reach 100% on a full charge, then perhaps at that point you can assume a defective battery.
