My Issues as a 2 Month EVO V User

It's nice but that's a dated device with only 768 MB of RAM and a Cortex-A8 dual core CPU, whereas the GNex is an unlocked device with 1 GB of RAM and a Cortex-A9 based SoC (TI OMAP 4460). As a result, the Sensation pulls about 60 MFLOPs vs the GNex's 76 or so MFLOPs on Linpack, both at the same clock speed of 1.2 GHz. That's a noticeable increase for sure, take it from someone who has tried both phones firsthand. Plus Sense...ew

I agree the GNex looks like the best t-mobile option... plus if you buy a phone direct from t-mobile (like the sensation) you have to do a contract and can't get the monthly 4G pricing... correct?

Anyway... doesn't really matter cuz I purchased my GNex on the Play Store this morning! looking forward to (hopefully) being problem free in a few days :D

Now I just gotta sell this EVO

You don't have to do a contract with anything if you buy from T-Mobile I don't think. The phone is just a phone, how you activate it is up to you as far as I can tell. These are GSM devices, so a bit different I presume.

So, I thought I should update this for anyone else who is as frustrated with Virgin Mobile as I was....

I've had a unlocked Galaxy Nexus running on T-Mobile for about a week now... and I could not be happier!!

The phone is amazing (this was a given) but even better news is that the service with T-Mobile is just as good!! I'm getting great 4G speeds everywhere I go, even getting service in places that I didn't back when I had Virgin Mobile and, before that, Sprint. Texts and calls are also working flawlessly. Oh and by the way I'm getting all this while paying LESS than I was with Virgin... Just $30 dollars a month for 100 minutes, Unlimited text, and Unlimited data with 5 GBs of 4G.

I know the 100 mins thing might freak some people out, but there are a number of apps that let you place calls over data so you don't use your minutes.

I would highly recommend this to anyone that was struggling with the same issues I was. Once again, I could not be more pleased with the way things are going since I switched.

Oh and I still haven't been able to sell my EVO V, so I think its going to sit in airplane mode and become my new MP3 player lol :D

That is my experience exactly. T-Mobile is going to get a lot of prepaid customers as the result of people discovering just how bad VM's trash "flagships" are. I love my gnex, running Franco kernel nightly, Codename Android Jelly Bean, and a bunch of other mods.

Oh, and unlocking the bootloader involves typing one command, selecting yes, and that is it. Restoring to stock is flashing a couple files via fastboot then issuing one more to relock the bootloader. HTC is trash.

I have been considering the same thing, but with the new Nexus device rumors floating around, I wanted to wait a little longer to jump ship. :)

HTC isn't trash. This is a nice phone. I totally blame Virgin for the network/text problems. BTW, if you're in an urban area like Los Angeles I'm sure you're service is great. But there are a lot of people in not so populated areas that can only get 2G service via T-mobile, so Virgin is still the best deal available fore them.

HTC locks down their phones more with every update. I will never touch an HTC device again after moving to Sammy. There's no point. The entire point of Android for me is custom ROMs and that community, because that is the ultimate form of customization and the power of the OS. HTC locks that down heavily, along with idiot carriers like Verizon and AT&T that love to lock down bootloaders. I for one will never support carriers and devices like that, that's for sure.

And in case you didn't know, T-Mobile's 2G is about 200 kbps, which matches or outpaces most experiences I've had with Sprint's 3G, honestly. I'd rather have an unlocked Nexus device to use in over 200 countries than a locked down, firmware-broken handset at any price, anywhere.

I used to live in NJ and I could hardly even find an area without signal of some kind. 99% of the time I had 3G/4G as well with speeds that destroy Sprint's network. However, now I live in Philadelphia, with glorious 10 mbps down everywhere. No idea why I even considered VM...

Ok you're right about locking down the device. But it's still a nice phone with quality hardware. I would be on T-mob if I was in your situation. I would also be on T-mob if I couldn't get 200kb/s with VM 3G.

I had the same feelings at first, but after having the phone in my hands for a week, its so hard to believe that the device was released a year ago... it performs and looks just as good as any other device out there today.

I'd recommend looking into it more, especially if price is an issue... because I'm sure if a new nexus is released the price won't be nearly as good a deal as the GNex currently is.

I completely agree the EVO V is a great phone overall... nice hardware, beautiful screen, cool 3D feature... I really did like the phone.

However Virgin Mobile made using the phone a nightmare... I couldn't perform the most basic functions that cell phones have been doing since back in the early days (ie. place calls, text, etc.)

And I also have to agree with Metal... while I don't believe HTC is complete trash, having the true Google experience on the Nexus has been awesome so far... I have Android the way it was meant to be... not a washed down version.

Anyway, I understand its different for everyone... I was skeptical about T-Mobile at first. But, I just wanted to share my experience with everyone because I remember how upset and frustrated I was every single day back when I was dealing with Virgin. And if my post helps even just one other person that is dealing with the same thing, then it was worth it to me.

virgin mobile is not trash, my 3g speed it pretty good for where i live i usually get around 1mb, i had the galaxy s3 on t-mobile and i would be lucky to get 200 kbps, i called t-mobile many many times while i was on contract with them asking if they were ever going to upgrade the towers in my area, everytime they said the same thing, we have had a lot of reports about this problem but don't have any planned projects in the near future.

This isn't true, HTC was the first manufacturer to guarantee unlocked bootloaders moving forward and the only one to provide a means of doing it retroactively. Some carriers won't allow this, Verizon comes to mind but that isn't htc's fault.

The EVO 4G LTE gets locked down more, and more, and more. Every HBOOT update makes it harder and harder to obtain S-OFF (aka true bootloader unlock). I issue a single command to the gnex and the bootloader unlocks for me no matter what version of the bootloader I'm running. I see an issue here. Sorry.
